Tell me about Minneapolis–Saint Paul

Early 30s and have lived my entire life in New Orleans and Baton Rouge. Girlfriend and I are getting serious and she was offered a position in the Twin Cities area (60 miles south of Minneapolis). If she takes it, I may follow her. I have never been there and know very little.
Any of you baws familiar with the area?
Work: I work in Finance/accounting in the healthcare sector. I know United Health and Optum are based there. Really don’t know much else about employment possibilities.
Don’t have kids and really aren’t looking to so schools aren’t a concern
How is the cost of living?
Any other advice would be appreciated

Bad idea unless you put a ring on it. Doesn’t matter what city imo

Well, for one thing it’s “know.”
Seriously, though, I can tell you that for several years we lived in the deepest of deep freezes in Vermont, and the only person affiliated with our organization who would come to Vermont and not be flustered by the winter was the guy who lived in Minneapolis. He thought VT milder than what he was used to while we were all freezing our asses off.

It’s cold half the year. Crime rate is lower then Nola.
If you are that far out you’ll be in a good school district and housing will be more affordable and nice.
In regards to health care. Unlimited options throughout the state.
If you’re south of the cities. Only city that has a problem with crime and low income housing is Faribault. Rochester, Owatonna, Albert Lea are pretty nice.

60 miles south of Msp, puts you in the Faribault, Rochester, New Prague area area?....Yes, usbank, ecolab, general mills, best buy, target, UHG/optum amongst other compaines are out of here. You're going to be living extremely rural if you choose to live close to work. 60 miles can easily take 4 hours to commute with snow on the ground. Think of 30 miles out of monroe rural being 60 miles out of msp...the food here is terrible, the people here are terrible, and unless you know people/have family here its totally not worth it, cost of living in my zipcode is $279 per square-foot....registration, taxes amongst other items are well over 1000 a year, i honestly despise living here, the issue is my entire family lives here and i love my company/job. public schools are fantastic other then that.... it's not worth it what so ever at all

They have a lot of Somalians
My friends up there call them “Skinnies”
It’s cold
And the deer hunting is good during November up around Huntersville

If you like hunting and fishing, and you don't mind freezing your arse off, and drilling holes in lakes to fish, and being prepared to die (literally) if your car breaks down on a highway during a snowstorm.... Minnesota is great.

I know tons of people from Minneapolis due to having a remote job with a Minneapolis based corporation.
I would not move there in a million years.
