I've spent a lot of time in my life traveling in colder climates. My wife has not so I'm taking her to Montana during the summer in a few weeks. "see how nice it is in June baby? It would be a great place to retire to"

60 miles south of Msp, puts you in the Faribault, Rochester, New Prague area area?....Yes, usbank, ecolab, general mills, best buy, target, UHG/optum amongst other compaines are out of here. You're going to be living extremely rural if you choose to live close to work. 60 miles can easily take 4 hours to commute with snow on the ground. Think of 30 miles out of monroe rural being 60 miles out of msp...the food here is terrible, the people here are terrible, and unless you know people/have family here its totally not worth it, cost of living in my zipcode is $279 per square-foot....registration, taxes amongst other items are well over 1000 a year, i honestly despise living here, the issue is my entire family lives here and i love my company/job. public schools are fantastic other then that.... it's not worth it what so ever at all

Kinda of Southwest of MSP. She would be working Near St Peter. Really haven’t figured out where we would live and who would commute the most. This may only end up being a short term assignment but could be longer.

Originally from Texas... I’ve been here 8.5 years. It’s very cool 5 months out of the year of you like the outdoors. It snowed in the middle of April. That is asstastic!

What’s not widely known is that there are 15+ Fortune 500 companies ( work for one) and 2% unemployment here. Great job market.

Cost of living in high. High tax state.

There is a huge immigrant population... mostly northern Minneapolis. What do you want to know?

It is soooo cold.

You will probably find better jobs and enjoy yourself. But there is no way I could handle the winters

Montana is a great place to retire. You don't have to go outside to commute if you don't want.

That is one is the reasons I am considering going (besides being with my girlfriend of course). The idea of getting out of New Orleans (a City with only one Fortune 500 company and limited professional jobs, I do have a decent professional job at the moment though) sounds appealing

St peter is just north of Mankato, that area is kinda EH, i have a few customers in that area, the mental health hospital in St Peter is the highlight.... im a huge hunter and fisherman and i love living rural, and st peter is just that. No way id leave LA to move to St peter, but that's just me.

I love it HC. We are going in 3 or 4 weeks after school and will be sans kid for about half that time.

She's flying up early and going traveling a bit with her paw paw

It's horrible. As an American, you will now be the minority in a new foreign country.

60 miles south? She at Mayo?

I love Minnesota. Cold doesn’t bother me much and the nice weather is amazing. Tons of lakes and outdoor activities. Tons of crazy liberals with white guilt. Not much “culture” outside of a few patches of Somalis

Traveling is one thing.

Not seeing clear sunshine for months. Single digits, plus wind, every day for months. Supernegative temps and snow storms common for months. Not going above freezing AT ALL EVER for months. Dealing with a million layers and all the thermals and shite every day for months. Shoveling snow every few days for months. Driving in that shite every day for months. Salt rusting up your vehicle for months. Road closures, huge slowdowns, wrecks, snow plows, curfews common for months

It's not even the cold. You get a new wardrobe (you may think you have winter clothes what with your traveling but trust me you don't) and you learn to layer up and deal with it and soon it doesn't bother you itself. It's just that it's a fricking hassle all the time every day and you constantly have to do extra shite you're not used to and there's never a break. There's not like a random warm day. This shite is not liveable so we take all these extra steps and life is just fricking inconvenienced all day every day for fricking months. Why the frick do people live here?

I’m in financial services... and the number of companies here surprised me when interviewing. I came here from the east coast. Ameriprise, Alliance, Wells Fargo, Securian, US Bank...not to mention 3M, Land O Lakes, Best Buy, Target...

There is a saying here though... it speaks to the culture.... people here will happily tell you where the nearest grocery store is but they won’t invite you over for dinner.

Most people here are lifers and still have their original friends from the second grade. Transplants tend to stick together.

Where are y'all thinking? I lived in Bozeman for most of my childhood. It's awesome, but crazy expensive when I look at at houses there now.
