Every sporting event is hyper-controversial.

NFL Football Saints no-call, targeting in CFB, Texas Tech / Virginia pinky-replay.

And now the Kentucky Fricking Derby...

Good God. Somebody make it stop!

Its as if its an alternate universe where the all the non-winners are claiming all the titles.

Pats/Rams should not have played for a SB ring

Virginia should not have played for a the basketball title (nor beaten TTU)

A 65-1 longshot crying foul at the Derby.

And so on...

I’m not usually someone who inserts politics into sports, but I think the response to the 2016 election kinda set the table for this.

Does 2002 count? The World Cup was one of the most controversial and poorly officiated sporting events ever, the Kings-Lakers series might have been rigged, and then there was the Tuck Rule game which literally flipped the results of a playoff game.

World Cup was criminal.
Italy was absolutely robbed against the hosts.
And the USA should have tied the game with the Germans in the quarters.

Maybe Saints should’ve won in OT then or maybe been called for a face mask as well.

No nothing of note happened as far as I know, but when you answer with confidence, people believe you.

2007 was a fairly weird year in sports if I recall. The madness of college football that year was really cool to see unfold

The best team won though, unlike the election fueled 2002 and 2018-19 sports seasons

The fact that sports gambling has gone legit makes rigging of games less likely not more.

It will be interesting to see how the 2020 election results impact the Jimbo Fisher era at Texas A&M
