WAFB link to story
Any ER professionals care to comment?
How the hell is this allowed and why isn’t discipline and legal recourse uses more often here?

K
This tends to happen as drug use increases amongst the population.

A survey... claims most doctors believe emergency room violence is increasing.
real scientific study here...
New study finds that most people find that they are aggrieved.

That's bound to interrupt card playing time.

This is because they have more mental patients, it’s a growing problem that no one is really addressing, purple gowns.

That's what happens when you have to wait 4 hours just to get charged $2,500 for a bandaid and a Tylenol.

Can I guess that this has correlation to a rise in drug use?

I am a primary care provider. We were recently told that we must start weaning people off of their benzos if they’re already on opiates. They will basically be given a choice as to which drug they’d like to keep. While I completely agree that people should not be on both, primary care offices are about to be a complete shite show. I also expect to see these behaviors in our practice.

It’s currently a hot topic in the ER community (doctors, nurses, etc.). Statistically healthcare personnel are more likely to get assaulted than police officers, which to me is an astounding fact. We put up with a lot of abuse that people in other private sectors would never dream of accepting. There needs to be push back, and more doctors/nurses need to start pressing charges against patients who resort to violence.

Very much on the rise, Texas now makes it a felony to assault medical personnel.

Friendly reminder that attacking hospital staff, especially doctors and nurses is considered a federal offense.
Plan accordingly, junkies.

Probably because all doctors do is “tests” to run the bill up instead of helping people

When I was doing armed security at a hospital one of our biggest contributors to that were drunks that the cops dropped off instead of taking them to jail for public intoxication.

As brought to you by the same ER people who think the full moon increases ER visitors... despite having 0 data backing the claim.

I should probably reconsider some of my future plans of action.

Social fabric of the country has been ripped apart. The crude and profane have become mainstream and it's reflected in the lives of the citizens.
"My feelings are always valid" is a lie that's taken the country by storm.

I work in this space. I deal with ER patient populations regularly (from a statistical and analytical standpoint for a hospital system).
It is due to the rise in psych patients clogging the ER, which definitely has some correlation to increased drug abuse.
We used to just ship them to a funny farm and/or isolate them, but now we keep them in our ERs for a variety of reasons, usually because of space limitations. Depending on the state, sometimes that is due to legislation.

Happens somewhat frequently unfortunately. I haven't been practicing long enough to say it's "on the rise".
