Video
Not a huge fan of his and I liked the episode, but I agree on his view that no one of real significance died.

Why are you going to this guy for film analysis?

Jorah and Theon have been relevant characters since literally the first episode of the series. Jorah in particular was a fan favorite.
It’s pretty unreasonable to argue they weren’t significant deaths.

Yet.
And Jorah and Theon have been around since the beginning. Melisandre is reason why Renly isn’t King right now, why Stannis died, and oh yeah this little bit about bringing Aegon back from the dead.

I have complaints about the episode but not enough significant characters dying was not one. I was prepared for the worst but it wasnt as bad as I thought it could be. Jamie or Brienne aint making it to the end.

It popped up in my Youtube recommended videos.

That’s like two main characters. Everytime you saw the other characters they were being overwhelmed and fighting 10 on 1 with their backs to the walls. There even a number of times where they were knocked down (like Sam when Jon was looking at home) and they survived each time. Many of them started out in the frontlines too yet survived.
Then again in the crypts, the only people that died were the extras. It was plot armor plain and simple.

What did Judge Judy think about it?

Who should you go to?
Guy is a super smart guy who has read all the books and is also paid to speak and analyze things.
If you would have posted some 27 yearold soyboy that worked as an entertainment blogger for the Vulture you would have accepted that as an expert opinion?
It would be like getting Colbert's opinion on LOTR.

Kind of a bad example since he is by all accounts a Tolkien expert and extreme nerd.
EDIT: Colbert is such a Tolkien nerd that he can read Elvish. I don’t like his politics, but I’d love to talk Tolkien with him. I thought that only the people that made the Lord of the Rings films would be bigger Tolkien nerds than he is, but Peter Jackson claims he’s even bigger:
quote:
I have never met a bigger Tolkien geek in my life … Philippa Boyens is our resident Tolkien expert, and when Stephen came down to visit the set, we put him head to head with Philippa on a Tolkien quiz–and Stephen triumphed. I have to say, his encyclopedic knowledge of Tolkien is spectacular, and points to a deprived childhood in some respects.
Really, really bad example on your part.

I think some people, myself included, expected more because of the farewells and hype. Jorah and Theon are substantial characters, particularly Jorah, but I was looking for a Tyrion, Sansa, or Jamie. And maybe 1 more of the less important characters like Tormund. I even wondered if they'd take out Dany to settle the Dany/Jon throne situation.
I think it was a great episode overall, but they really teased too much death throughout the episode with miracle saves. About halfway I came to the realization that nobody truly huge/important was going to die

People would also be complaining if they killed off too many important characters. People just like to bitch in general.

Nobody should have survived that. Let’s be real. Except maybe Arya

So No One would have survived.

They were being overwhelmed, fighting wave after wave of wights from the front, side, and behind them. Yet everyone on the frontlines, courtyard, and crypts with the exception (Theon was at the tree) of Jorah survived. Hell even Sam who was lying on his back and being overrun last we saw him survived. Please tell me how that wasn’t an example of plot armor?
It’s perfectly reasonable to expect that more then just three characters out of this huge cast to die in a battle in which probably 9 out of 10 people died.

Listen it's not about that enough main people didn't die. I could get over that, it's that they were continuously put in situations where it was impossible to survive and yet all of them
did
did
