Stay at resort or outside. Looking to go last weekend of May.

Resort for sure, just depends on how much you want to spend. My wife is fine with the Caribbean Beach, and it’s pretty cheap. We generally stay at a nicer one with the whole family, but when she takes the boy they stay at the CB.

Generally outside resorts are cheaper / nicer for the price you pay.
You have to get from your outside resort to the parks, which means driving (and paying parking fees), taking Uber/taxi, or taking a hotel shuttle if your resort has one.
You can use disney transport for free to move around disney once you are on property.
Staying at a disney resort gives you extra magic hours, which allows you to go early or stay late at one park a day.
Staying at a disney resort also gives you access to book fastpasses quicker, but at this late date that might not be a whole lot of value to you.

I prefer to just pay the extra to be on Disney property
The Disney transportation can be a little frustrating sometimes. We also stayed at Carib Beach but waiting on those buses got old
With that said, the cost savings being off Disney is good as well. Plus you can get away from the Disney food which does get old after awhile.

Staying at Disney Resort gets rid of the parking fees and having to drive, tickets to the park are cheaper, and you get longer hours in the park. To me, its totally worth it.

I always stay at Beach Club or Boardwalk. They are both within a 5 min walk to Epcot World Showcase, we hang out and eat in the World Showcase every night.

I went with my wife to one of these Hilton Grand Vacation presentations in Las Vegas to get the freebies. NEVER AGAIN !!! It was a terrible experience and not worth the hassle. They made us feel so bad for not signing up I told them to keep their freebies and we walked out. We'll NEVER NEVER NEVER attend a timeshare presentation anywhere again NEVER !!

Long shot question, but have you already purchased your tickets? I have a 5 day park hopper that expires at the end of the year that I'm looking to unload for cheap. Can fully transfer to you.

At this point...I would 100% definitely recommend working with an agent. It won't cost you anything an they will be able to handle your dining reservation and Fastpasses.
If you're booking a trip within 45 days you are very, VERY late in the game in regards to planning and you'll want some help navigating the details and planning.
I can recommend Dreams Unlimited
But to answer the question...yes, stay on site but I would book REAL soon.
Resort guests can book their Fastpasses 60 days in advance of their reservation and non resort guests can book 30 days in advance.. This ia a huger perk for staying on-site so don't wait and book within 30 days then lose out on that benefit.

Oh, and no offense to the PP but never, ever buy Disney tickets second hand. Especially when you don't know them and they are advertised as cheap

Not anymore. They implemented parking fees at most of the resorts last year.

Yeah, I get it, and would recommend the same. However, I've been a poster here for a long time, live in baton rouge, and would do whatever is deemed necessary for you to verify I'm legit and the ticket was transferred to you.

Yeah, this can be problematic. At a min, verify they are flexible date tickets and not a single day has been used on them. Once the first day is used, the clock expires very quickly.

If you plan on spending a lot of time in the room, stay off-site. You’ll have a larger, nicer room for less money.
If you plan on spending as much time in the parks as possible, stay at Disney.

Stay on site if you can afford it. If flying in, the magical express is a lifesaver. Like others have said, having access to buses on property is great too.
