Do you have ANY idea how many Americans were born in the mid/late 1950s? And how many decades it took for us to get to those size birth cohorts again?

Nothing figurative about it.

Realistically, they will have to begin raising FRA a month for every year that passes. Jeb Bush had this plan.
I don’t like it anymore than anyone else but it’s better than them raising taxes so they can just raid the account even more.

Can you explain this?

As long as it is based in actuarial reality, folks shouldn't have a huge problem with it. But, it remains the third rail of politics. It will, therefore, be treated like a hot potato/musical chairs type situation so one side or the other can assign blame for the changes.

Aren’t all social programs (besides full on welfare) basically this?

Looks like we need to protest

If I get 3/4 of SS in 2035 I will shite a gold brick in excitement.

I’ll be in Glory; y’all enjoy, though.

I’ll bet they’ll means test it before that happens

Should SS be mandatory or voluntary?
Posted on 4/23/19 at 9:24 am to Revelator
I figure up one day that I would have to draw my railroad retirement, it's akin to SS but pays more, for seven years for me to get back what I put into it.

Generation-Xers are not yet SS retirement age. Gillions of Boomers are, with the huge cohorts just now coming on the rolls.

open up immigration
Illegal immigrants are crashing other parts of the entitlement system, not shoring up SS with their identity theft.

Well the government doesn't allow citizens to opt out of the system and privately invest the money taken by SS
Not only that, but the government uses the money that citizens are forced to pay into the program to generate interest in order to further fund the general fund.

I’m shocked. Totally shocked

Does labor force = social security contributors?

In 2035, the oldest millennials will be approaching retirement. Isn’t the post millennial generation “labor force” the one we should be focused on if projecting 20+ years down the road?
