re: Married baws with kids; how often do you have to get away from the family for a few days?

I get to go to the camp for a weekend about every 3-4 months (by myself)..
To be perfectly honest, my wife is completely cool with it, but I often find myself at the camp, either feeling guilty about being away from my wife and the boys or wishing I was home with the family so it’s like I don’t get to enjoy being at the camp as much as I used to
Thankfully, my oldest is at the age where he can come down with me during the summer so hopefully it’s better this year

I was going to say I never like being away from my family, I am very family-centric. But, I don't work from home and obviously not around 24/7, so I see it from a different perspective from you. If I was in your situation I might, however, I would be certain my spouse got the same opportunity.

Most are no doubt. Although this is one of the more wholesome examples of OT braggadocio I’ve seen.

Nothing wrong with a little "Me" time. Doesn't mean you don't love your family just need to do some things that you used too or enjoy doing. Plenty of time for family.

Before I retired from the Corps, USMC made damn sure I got plenty of time away from my family for huntin and such.

Big reason why I don’t want kids

I usually take 2-3 guy trips a year....kinda like a bachelor party without a bachelor

Very rarely. Maybe on a business trip on a random tuesday night.

As little as possible. Really only for work trips a few times a year

Never much cared for being away from wife and children and never much cared when they were away

I'm pretty surprised by this thread.
Me too. Hopefully they’re trolling. I have been told by several people my entire life that an occasional trip alone or with friends is part of a balanced and functional marriage.
Weird responses on this thread, that’s for sure.

That’s a good way to put it.
But now everyone is happy to sip whiskey around a fire and tell lies.
We eat good...and usually catch a mess of fish.

I'm not married and I don't have kids so maybe I'm not qualified to respond, but why not take the kids fishing with you? Daddy always took me fishing when I was a little girl, and those are some of my fondest memories.

Lot of BS in this thread. Like the Facebook women that go from their man being their entire world to wanting to murder them every other day.
I don’t look forward to being away from my family as much as I have things I enjoy doing that is not possible for little kids to do. So yeah I hear you OP.
Plus, it’s definitely good to routinely get away from people you see every day to remember the simple things you love when you don’t have them.

Anyone who doesn't like a weekend away in the woods, or with the guys AT LEAST 4-6 times a year has something VERY wrong with them, or are completely full of shite. Same goes for the ladies, we all need our time away with adult friends.
Being an adult with children doesn't mean you need to spend 365 nights a year with them. It's probably healthier for kids to have a few weekends with a parent alone as well, would seem to allow for more personal 1:1 bonding honestly.

We do a little more than that. Think Cabo, Costa Rica, Vegas, etc

Being married, having kids, and family are over rated to some degree.

3yo son would love to, but he’s not quite old enough to have the patience. Plus, it would just be me doing more of what I do at home.
6yo daughter isn’t crazy about fishing.
