When to replace trailer bearings? (Bass pic added)

One of my tires was making bad sound today. Stopped at gas station, felt warm to the touch but not hot. No smell. Other hub was not warm. I picked up that side of trailer (small rig) and was able to spin the tire, it rolled about a turn and a half before stopping.
Can I redneck a few more trips out of this, or do I need to have this worked on, and how much can I expect to pay?

I would suspect it would last another trip or two but, the time that it goes out will inevitably be the day that the 10 pounders are jumping in the boat.

How far does it wobble back and forth?
Fix your bearings yourself, its easy

Bearings are cheap and easy to change. Watch a few youtubes on it and change them. Watching your tire pass you up on the interstate sucks.

No. It'll burn up and strand you on the side of the road as well as damage the hub.

It's a really easy fix you can do yourself. You pull a pin, unscrew a castle nut, and change the bearing assembly.
I keep a spare hub and bearing assembly in my boat sealed in a gallon ziplock. IMO, it's as important as having a spare tire.

this. Just buy a whole hub assy.

Both have some significant wobble. What does that mean?

Means your bearings are shot
They are really easy to fix though. buy a bearing/hub kit or a new set of bearings and grease packer and do it your self

Does the fact it is a 350lb trailer with a 150lb boat give me extra life on these hubs?
Regarding DIY, i have money but i dont have time, thats why i lean to getting it done professionally. What would that cost at a random tire shop?

It takes like 20-30 minutes tops on a small trailer

probably $100 plus parts

They're worn out.
When you put a new set or hub on, tighten down the castle nut until it stops. Don't over tighten, instead back off to the next gap in the castle nut that exposes the hole for the cotter pin. There shouldn't be wobble.
As the bearings wear over time, more room created by wear will allow the hub to "wobble".

This is not the place to just cross your fingers and hope it holds on for a couple more trips. Aside from the fact that you could cause an accident on the highway and kill someone, the longer you want to perform the routine maintenance that this will take, the more risk you take of damaging the spindles and needing a new axle.
A YouTube video, 50 bucks, and 30 mins and this will be done. If you have time to fish you have time to do this.

Changing hubs is easier than putting new bearings in them. What some are neglecting to tell you is that while the bearings themselves will come out easily, the races are damn near an interference fit and can be nearly impossible to remove without a press or the proper tools. Sometimes you get lucky and you can get by, but marine trailers are almost never easy.
