ABC News (through whichever French station it's getting the video from) just had a good close up of firefighters up by the roof trying to fight the fire

they were midgets compared to their surroundings and the water coming out of their hose looked like me trying to fight a house fire with my urine stream

I was having a pretty shitty afternoon because one of my installers damaged a homeowner's shower. I feel a lot better knowing my company didn't burn down Notre Dame.

Why aren’t they doing anything? Have the French already surrendered?

Yes and it was absolutely amazing to stand in the center and look up and imagine what technology we have now that they didn’t have then but were able to do so much. Multiple generations of families built the cathedral. So glad i visited twice.

You'd think with all the historic buildings and artwork, they'd have some serious protocols in place.

Although, kudos to them for the past 1000 years.

Windsor Castle, a good part of it, burned out and they were able to refurbish it

Hopefully most of it survives.

I always found it kinda lame when something gets destroyed and it's totally rebuilt and people act like it is authentic in any way. Hopefully, it's only a partial reconstruction. We're at roof and spire as of now.

Officials in Paris said the fire could be linked to restoration works as the peak of the church is currently undergoing a 6 million-euro ($6.8 million) renovation project.

Yeah. That just got a lot more expensive.

looks like it is mostly scaffolding that is on fire

Everything is on fire. The entire structure is burning to the ground minus whatever is stone.

Looks like a garden hose on a house fire.

And that old and dried out wood that's going up quickly.

Amazing.

Close to making it a millennia, and just like that it's gone.
