Okay, I've got my clothes and gear together. Where is this Valhalla of which you speak so I can start heading that way?

Yes. But I would not until I retire. No way I could recover and reconnect to the network. I am in grind mode ATM.

I would bet most who say they could wouldn't he able to.

The world has changed. Cell phones, internet, etc have become ubiquitous in our lives. It would be a complete lifestyle change. It would be no different a struggle than losing weight or quitting smoking.

This would require a long adjustment period that I think most people would struggle with. Especially the sample size of this website that would probably be heavier than normal phone/internet users.

I don't it's even the tech, it's the forward motion of all of our lives that would require the most adjustment.

Even taking a break from the world for a year, everything you do would grind to a halt. Career. How you interact with people. The tech just supports that, but the constant commotion of the world that drives everything, including how successful we all are, that's the thing you are giving up in this scenario.

If I had enough money to exist like this AFTER the year, then yes. Otherwise, it would be a struggle to catch back up for anyone and get back to where I was when I left. That's the biggest burdle.

Looking at the trees and the surrounding land, I’m guessing it’s in the mountains. There is probably 9 months of snow. It would be very lonely. Cabin fever would set in quickly. Think Jack Nickelson in The Shining.

Absolutely if I didn’t have a job and my kids weren’t in school and we could just hang out and enjoy life.

What do I do for income to buy that food?

You never mentioned no tv, cable, or console gaming so I can still watch football.

I believe I could. but man you need some kind of communication with the outside world in case of emergency. And hopefully a dog or some other humans to talk to.

Maybe I could;

Do i have access to a book store/library? I would read a crap ton of books if i was out in a luxury cabin for a year. I would hunt and fish a ton

I'm going hog hunting tomorrow and bringing my kindle to read in the blind...so I would need some books

CSB: yesterday i was at my office and the internet went out for 2 hours...it was like the world had stopped and people were panicking

I mean, sure I "could."

But I most certainly would not want to, unless there's a substantial reward on the other side of that year.

I love my phone and internet way too much.

I love all the posteres with 1000s of posts acting like they'd do it for free because phones and internet are just no good or something.
