The illegality thing was very real and could have easily led to the slaughter of an innocent couple had a unfortunate pair happened along meeting the basic description. Male-female driving a similar vehicle. The police take on the risks involved when they accept the job. That said a hair trigger was understandable.

The film received Academy Awards for Best Supporting Actress (Estelle Parsons) and Best Cinematography (Burnett Guffey).[5] It was among the first 100 films selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry. -Wiki

I preferred the earlier version as well. Have you ever seen it?

For another great Dunaway movie check out Chinatown. You would probably prefer Hellboy. It fits better with the ADD lifestyle of many millenials.

Yes...but the initial shooter fired 2 shots before the signal was given and got Clyde in the head.

No. This is not correct
Many attempts had been made before this happened and many civilians and LE's were shot or dead.
They got what they asked for.

Seems like an extrajudicial killing violating their right to trial. They knew they were coming and could easily have just surrounded them when they stopped where they couldn’t escape.

It was the 1930's......they killed a number of lawmen. Blew one's head off with a shotgun while he was lying wounded. So no fricks were given about their fricking rights.

I suppose when it reached the point of the Barrow Gang raiding military armories, the gloves- and all bets - were off.

Because at this point

They ceased having any rights.
