Any suggestions for garage rail, racks, storage, etc?

I recently built a new house and everything is cluttering the crap out of my garage floor. We have an oversize garage so we have room on all three walls to hang tools, etc. I'm looking to pick out a rail/storage 'system'. For my last house I used the old Husky system from Home Depot. It was pretty crappy and I haven't even seen it in the stores lately. HD now has the rubbermaid system which is likely the smart choice since I can pick it up locally. Costco has some now in stores, but the longest piece of rail is only 24" long. Things I want to hang... Shovels, rakes, edger, trimmer, kids' bikes, folding chairs, ladders etc. TIA

I’m eager to hear replies. I am in your exact situation

I got a Craftsman rack kit at Lowes last week. I don't think it's any better or worse than the others but the Kobalt-brand hooks work on it too and it makes it a cheaper option than the Rubbermaid system.

I just did this and decided on the Rubbermaid Fasttrack system, simply because of local availability. I can pick up rails and hooks from just about anywhere. The hooks are pretty expensive IMO, but it seems pretty sturdy. I just put up two 84” rails.
I’ll be using a standard pegboard for over the work bench, so I don’t need the full “wall” system. Just some rails to hang my trimmer, shovels/rakes, extension cords, etc.

When you garage is open, how much room do you have between the door and the ceiling? I was able to hang racks from the ceiling and get most of my crap off the floor...and the stuff is hidden from view (when the garage is open).

If you have a workbench or tools & implements you frequently use, pre-painted peg board is handy.
I bought 4' x 8' white panels that take 1/4-inch hooks.

I got rid of the peg board when I rebuilt my shop area. All my handtools are now in tool chests and drawers lined with VCI padding, zero rust. When I had stuff on peg boards I'd have to keep them wiped down with silicone or oil and they'd still get a little rust wirh the humidity.

Where’d you get the Vci padding?

Lowes sells it in rolls, just trim to fit. I put it my smaller toolboxes and gun cabinet too.

I can’t find it at Lowe’s or HD, can you link it?

I have a lot of the Kobalt K Rail stuff. I like it because it is cheaper than some of the others, and it has a lot of different hooks and hanging items like baskets, shelves, etc.

I did this same thing. Its good for stuff that you dont use very much. Its off the floor and out of the way. Costco sells the racks typically cheaper than you can buy them direct from the company.
