Similar to Calipari-- where he can coach until he retires and then move into an ambassador role. I mean the two have had almost identical success at the #1 program in their respective sport.

ETA: This thread was in jest. Obviously Mainieri already isn't going anywhere and is staying for as long as he wants so no extension is even needed. The reactions were exactly what I thought they would be. My only point was that Calipari and Mainieri have had nearly identical success at nearly identical programs and one is getting a lifetime contract while the fans want the other one fired.

I believe Mainieri is one of the top 3 active college baseball coaches in the game today but I don't think a "lifetime" contract is a good idea.

It takes away the incentive to improve, not that Mainieri is motivated by fear of losing his job.

He will be the head baseball coach as long as he wants to coach, short of a scandal or a complete collapse in the program.

What has PM done to deserve a lifetime contract ? Win one series and the PM lovers are out in full force . If PM wants a lifetime contract he needs to win another NC in next 2 years . If he doesn’t it’s the me to move on

No but I'm sure probably not the only one who'd like you to have a lifetime contract not to post.

And that's the sad part ... because he is no where near even the top 20 as far as coaches.... LSU is making him!!

Bertman at least retired when he got tired. PM is lazy and doesn't care... and certainly isn't motivated anymore. He should have the common decency to move on and retire. PERIOD.

Please explain why CPM doesn’t care and isn’t motivated?

Smoke Laval was terminated for 35-24 & 13-17 in SEC Play, Mainieri should be held to the same standards.
