We had a cool Jack Russel /Rat terrier that got hit by a car in January. She saw it happen and was stressed out and blaming herself for the whole incident. The next week we got a 6 wk old beagle puppy from a hunter out of Franklinton. We still miss the terrier, but loving a new puppy makes it better.
This pic is from today, 4 months old.

You have. Go for it. The sooner the better or the grieving will just turn into a pity party.

Not even sure what breed we'll consider.
Go look at shelters and also Facebook.
For example on Facebook:

I broke down in tears reading this thread. I can't fathom how you've survived.

Why are you trolling another dog thread? I don't understand you at all.

Do beagles kept indoors howl much?

Our 10 year old, Chipper, never howls. He very occasionally barks but not even much of that.

Is shedding an issue?

She does not, but I've heard others do when lonely.

Likewise I don't understand you. I had to pick my wife up from a ball on the floor last night because we lost our only son. Here you are making posts about your dog. YOUR frickING DOG. I pray your kids get the same love as your dog did.

Damn dude. Many have showed you compassion and you return it by trolling people and posting in dog threads and telling them how they should feel. Whatever makes you feel better.

I moved to a new house and about three months after moving, about a week into the new year my lab slipped out of his collar and off his leash while I was away on a hunting trip. My GF at the time came over that evening to let him in for the night and he was gone. Collar still attached to the leash and sitting on the ground. Had him for 13 years.
Doubt I’m ever going to get another dog at this point. I’ve looked at a few pups I’m the shelter but never pulled the trigger.

Had to put down our 3 year old red golden. She had renal failure. We waited two weeks. Still not over putting down that dog. She was the best.

I’m sorry to see that the terrible loss of your beautiful son has overwhelmed you and led you to believe that you have somehow , through your suffering earned the right to minimize the pain that others feel. I hope that you find acceptance and peace in time. It is a profound loss that only someone who has lost a child could possibly understand.
It is important to remember though that your suffering does not give you or anyone a license not to have empathy and compassion for others, even if their suffering seems minimal in comparison to yours.
Everyone here continues to pray for you and your family. My deepest condolences.

We waited about 3 months, but I wish we wouldn't have. Kids were distraught and honestly I was pretty bummed too. I didn't realize it would hit me so hard. I think getting another one a couple of weeks after the first loss would've been ideal.

I'm already considering getting another Golden Retriever and our current Golden is doing well but is 7 1/2. She is our third GR in our 35 years of marriage. They live about 10 to 11 years so strangely I know our time with her is getting shorter. I'll be heartbroken when she's gone and I'd like to have another before that day happens. I haven't convinced my wife of this yet.

it absolutely does. It was a dog that lived a full average life. OP doesn't need to go on a message board seeking social approval to move on and get another damn dog less than a week after his my doggy died thread.

This. Adopted 2 lab mixes from the FOTA and CAA and could not of adopted more loving dogs. There's plenty of dogs that are in need of a good home. They may not be the pure bread that you're looking for but they're deserving of a good home.

I knew the other troll couldn't be far behind. Don't tell people how they should feel. You don't know me and I don't know you.
