Another day, another probable several million dollars in lost time and wages for thousands of working Americans spent simply trying to cross An interstate bridge . At 7:00 pm, hours after a wreck near Acadian ,traffic on 1-10 and I-12 was backed up for miles. Thousands of cars just idling because any wreck , no matter how small brings the whole thing to a screeching halt. It will never change. It is our fate. We are too stupid as a state to expect to be able to handle something any decent state would have solved a quarter of a century ago. My entire life the State of Louisiana has suffered a crisis of imagination. It sets the bar really low and then still can’t get over it.

A West Bank bypass to a toll bridge down river that connects to Ascension Parish (I-10) and then I-12 ( Livingston) is impossible . A loop ? Impossible. There is neither the imagination or the will to solve these problems and improve our quality of life . There is and will always be nothing more than a shitty status quo. Baton Rudge.

Rant over.

Traffic in Baton Rouge has been a fricking SHITSHOW even worse than usual the last few weeks due to the La 1 road work.

I wonder what kind of terrorism false flag disaster reaction they’re studying instead.

I am admitting to breaking the law right now because the minimum speed limit is 40 mph. I am going zero. About to put flashers on and run to get some ribs.

Someone just flashed bright lights to make me move 20 feet. I am going to study for a bar exam while I wait.

I normally don't have to deal with much traffic on my commute. It's consistently 15 minutes in the morning and 20 in the evening.

Today it was a shite show. It took me about an hour and 15 minutes to get home. I live 4-5 miles from work

It’s the MFing 1-10 major deep state Interstate system that our interstate commerce from California to Florida is dependent on, not some backwater 4 lane highway. It’s maddening. I visit clients on the West Bank and it’s 50/50 whether I will be able to get there. It’s infrastructure for 1979 not 2019. And there no will to change it. Seriously- it’s too large of a challenge for Louisiana. It exceeds our capabilities.

In all fairness, the accident today was a result of a vehicle being
chased by police and striking 10 cars.

That being said, I plan trips around getting on the interstate during off peak hours.

I’m moving back in June and not looking forward to the traffic. Shreveport has a loop and several spots to cross the river if need be. It’s essentially traffic free up here.

Just bc you have the imagination and will to tackle such problems doesn't mean you have the money to

Yeah , but that wreck near Acadian was tying things up at 3:00. The backup at 7:00 ( and probably now) is another issue. Traffic at 7:00 was Going under 5mph from the bridge to past Essen Lane. This is the norm now, easily 4-5 times a week. It’s ludicrous.

It’s pretty simple. There’s too many giant neighborhoods with only 1 access point onto roads that are not designed to handle that much traffic. We keep building and building though without any new access.

This coupled with the idiots that don’t know how to drive, stop 10 car lengths back of the car in front of them, causing extra cars to block intersections and miss lights they would have otherwise gone through, plus this obsession with randomly stopping to wave people out into flowing traffic

We've had the money and the brains to do it. Politicians just want to make the North BR better and to allow shitty Washington St people dictate our decisions to better the city.

You may be right, but we will need to spend $50million on another study to confirm that.

That could be said of any civic problem that BR faces that is dependent upon it's leadership for a solution.

This is the amazing part to me. After a high speed police chase that caused 12 vehicles to wreck, police completely shut down I-10W while they apprehended the driver, but the choke point is still the fricking LA1 southbound exit.

Dear Rep. Graves:

Considering the millions of dollars in productivity and delayed product, as well as the strategic threat presented by the I-10 bottleneck, please get together with Senators Cassidy and Kennedy and meet with President Trump and have him declare the Baton Rouge interstate system an economic and national security emergency and put the building of a loop and bridge over the Mississippi River.

Sincerely everyone with a modicum of fricking sense.

Very well said.. I could not agree more. As years pass, the less and less hope I have in any of this doing anything but waxing worse, and people just have the endure this shite. It’s become a very sad place.

IMO, another major issue with BR's traffic that's never mentioned is the location of the medical district. Look at most other cities, and you'll see that their medical districts are near downtown. But here in Baton Rouge it's all the way out at Essen Lane, creating a second focal point for rush hour traffic.
