Jim Calhoun retiring kill that conference? It’s crazy how bad that conference is now. Used to be a CBB powerhouse.

ETA- and yes I know Nova has won the title. I mean the conference top to bottom

There's an entire 30-for-30 on this very topic.

UConn is in the American Athletic Conference now. The Big East is all private, mostly Catholic schools now.

Got raided in conference realignment. All but one team in Big East basketball is a Catholic school.

A damn shame too.

As someone mentioned, Big Monday was the shiznit.

Allen Iverson against Ray Allen. Those Syracuse teams with John Wallace, Rony Seikaly, Sherman Douglas, Villanova with Kerry Kittle and Tim Thomas, St Johns with Marc Jackson, Ron Artest aka Metta World Peace, Chris Mullins, I can go on and on.

Big East Tournament was fire and the Mecca of basketball before NCAA Tourney.

Villanova won a couple of titles in the past few years. Xavier was very recently a 1 seed. They had a down year but it’s still a really good basketball conference. Providence is usually good, Marquette is coming back and maybe Georgetown. Butler, Creighton, Seton Hall, and St. John’s can easily have good teams.

Yeah they are still a legit basketball conference that can generally put out a few good teams. Not much more to it than that. I mean they are never gonna put out 3 #1 seeds like an ACC or someone

Big East/ACC matchups were entertaining as well.

WestCoastAg is correct here.

Edit: If you look at the Big East this year, the 3 worst teams are 7-11 in conference. So the the 3 worst teams in the field of 10 had 7 wins a piece in conference. To me this is one of the rarest stats ive personally seen regarding conference standings.

The 2000s were peak Big East for me. Loved watching it growing up

That league was so stacked before it disbanded. I vividly remember how fun the tournament was at MSG. At any given time, Syracuse, Nova, Pitt, UConn, Notre Dame, West Virginia, Georgetown, even BC in some years, were all elite. Then it got even better when it added Louisville, Cincinnati and Marquette.
