Any tips?

We just built and painted the bricks white.

A professional did it with a sprayer. Hope that helps.

My in laws neighbor did and it came out really nice. I'd have someone spray it.

Next door neighbor painted there's about 10 yrs ago. Used Behr Brick and masonry paint with a big nappy roller. They went with a gray color and it still looks great. Took them a weekend to do it.

I want to do this as well but my bricks have pretty big grooves between them. Have to get it sprayed, would take forever to do with a roller since it can’t get in the grooves enough.

We did, but we hired a painter. They pressure washed it first and let that dry; then used outdoor Kiltz, then paint.

Ours was just completed yesterday.

We had it pressure washed really well before the painters started their work. They spent a good bit of time prepping - taping windows, gutters, iron work etc. They primed it and painted with a sprayer.

Did this recently - brick was ugly.

Painters primed with this (added color) - LINK

~2600 sqft house took about 30-35 gallons of this primer. The bricks soak it up, but you can tell its a heavy coat.

Finish coat was SW Duration - lifetime warranty.

I didn't have the deep mortar cracks so they rolled with a heavy nap. If you have deep mortar, spraying is the only way - but they can roll it back to try and get a consistent coverage on the brick face.

Get a good contractor with references. Spraying can get ugly real quick with your plants, etc.

Anybody use someone in Metairie area for this and has good recommendations? Looking for an aproximate cost on a 2100 square ft 3 bed 2 bath typical one story Metairie home also.

The correct way is not just paint.

I think it's more of a paint/mortar mix. An architect explained it to me once by saying, " Its like making a gumbo".

I would contact a good high end builder in the BR area, like Carter Hill or Robert Scheffy and ask them to recommend someone.

We are in the process of limewashing with Romabio product. Somebody posted it on the OB. It’s a product that you brush onto your brick, wait 10-60min and wash it partially off depending on the look you want.

We had salmon color brick, which would’ve been fine had they used regular white or gray mortar. Instead, they used a salmon color mortar as well and it’s been the one thing the wife has wanted to change since we bought the house in 2008.

So after a couple weeks of researching and video watching, we dove right in. It’s been super quick to do and our house looks completely different. We both love the change.

Check out Romabio’s Instagram page and do a search on YouTube for ideas.

some bricks look nice, others look meh at best and some patterns and brick variations can be down right busy looking

just because you have bricks doesnt mean you like the look of bricks

if you just sprayed and didn't roll you will paint it again in 2-3 years. You have to spray and roll brick. Too porous to simply spray.

I want to do this as well without hiring a painter.

This is the type of brick on my house and I know it's going to be a son of a bitch.

Any tips help

How much does this cost on a typical brick home that is brick all the way around? I see this a lot on homes that were built in the 60's and 70's these days. I don't think it would look right on most of the newer homes.

Limewash, as others have mentioned. Used Romabio, and it came out well. I used a paint sprayer, though, and had to use about two coats since the brick was so old
