I wasn't old enough to understand Rhodesia, but it looks like I get to see something similar happen now in S. Africa.

Yabbut, they cured themselves of the disease of wealthy white people.

This book was recommended by a poster here and is an excellent read about what happened in Rhodesia/Zimbabwe. You'll see the same thing happen in South Africa.

Isn’t there an ocean of water right next to them? Do desalinization plants exist? Sounds more like a salt problem than a water problem.
Doesn’t really apply here. This is progressive problem.

We killed all the farmers and the educated people. Why the frick are our farms dieing and why is our populace uneducated? Can someone help explain it?

I could try, but I doubt they would understand it.

I was old enough to remember Rhodesia, and yes the path seems to be the same.

If they don't have enough electricity to pump the water they have into the storage tanks, a desalinization plant might not be the answer. It would be a MAJOR electrical consumer.
Sounds like what they need is more electrical generation, or maybe people skilled enough to operate what generation capacity they have.

I have a good friend, born in SA but moved to the US many years ago and is an American citizen. Every member of his extended family, many of them quite wealthy, has applied for asylum in Canada

My MD, Jewish, got out of South Africa.
He is a leading researcher/author in his niche.
Their loss.

I've read some other articles about SA's problems with these systems. It's not just operation. It's maintenance and repair when you have breakdowns. They don't have people who can fix complicated machinery. Those people are gone.

Wasn't Barack Obama just there a few months ago? How did they let him leave without fixing everything?
