I don't blame them. Tom DeLonge, has such a unique voice, it sounds just like Blink 182. You wind up competing against yourself. If you are a member for Blink 182, you are pissed.

ETA: I guess +44 was a response to Angels and Airwaves?

It was DeLonge and Barker without Hoppus, and I think that bugged and/or possibly embarrassed (because optically it looks like he's not good enough to participate) Hoppus. If it was just DeLonge on a side project, I doubt it would have been such a big deal for Hoppus.

I think you're mostly right. +44 wasn't necessarily a response to AnA, so much as having something else to do without DeLonge when dude just wanders off to do non-Blink stuff.

I enjoy all the Blink related stuff well enough, especially Angels and Airwaves, but DeLonge has a pretty inflated view of himself.

Not a big fan of Skiba in the DeLonge role, but that was a tall task replacing a unique voice in DeLonge like you noted..though I do like Skiba in general and think his attitude is a refreshing change of pace from the drama.

Point being though, each of them were good enough to be better than just one hit, but the same problems that plagued Blink over the years also plagued the side projects it appears.

That "Waco My Airplane" song was a far bigger hit.

My nomination: Thin Lizzy

Take My Picture was a big hit. No one really cares about them today though.

I've never thought of them as a "One Hit Wonder" but I guess they are. Their only "hit" was "No Rain", though "Change" got some airtime.

So if they shouldn't have been, a one hit wonder, what should they have been? I believe that the direction they were going in was not to create "hits" but great bodies of work, which was Soup. Soup is way better than the S/T album (even though that one is good). I doubt they'd have any more hits as big as "No Rain" but would have made some amazing albums if Hoon hadn't passed.

I've always thought of "One hit wonders" as bands who literally had one (or a couple) good song that made it as a "hit" on one of their early albums, and nothing they produced after that was regarded as good, if it's a hit or not.
