Am I crazy or does LSUs response indicate this is a nothingburger? One matter that isn’t a compliance or NCAA issue (nothing). And the other hiring a student athletes parent (slap on wrist). Not the doomsday I was expecting based on the rant this morning.

By itself t doesn't sound too bad but coupled with the basketball thing I'm sure the worry is the NCAA seeing a pattern

So who are the gift cards for?
Why didnt LSU disclose this earlier?
Why did the feds get involved?
Why isn't there any showing of where this money was spent by the embezzler?
Why hasn't the embezzler been arrested?

Whoever Funes gave them to - this much detail was not released by OLOL

quote:

We've identified approximately $810,000 lost due to fraudulent activity committed by Mr. Funes, former president of the Foundation,” said the report that was released Thursday afternoon by the Catholic Church’s Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System, which owns the Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge.

They were probably asked to withhold this info until OLOL had everything on their end completed

Feds involved because the dude stole 810k from a charity

OLOL is not releasing that info, I feel like they have an idea of where it went since they were only able to tie 2 transactions to LSU

From what I remember when all of this originally came out (missing funds) they had to audit / investigate & then charges could be filed
I feel sure he will not get away with this

Correct
But LSU was advised by OLOL in 2018 when they started looking for the money &
I am thinking they flipped their shite when the wire tap clips were released & to show the NCAA they were “on top of things”

quote:

He reportedly gave Foundation money to the parent of an LSU athlete, ostensibly as wages for a job, according to two sources familiar with the investigation who asked not to be identified because both said they were not authorized to speak publicly. Whether LSU officials were aware of Funes' action prior to being alerted by hospital officials is unclear.

I wonder if the amount of money makes a difference

Didn’t they say from 2012-2015?

No problem, vacate those wins

Pretty pointless for it to have been blown up like it was
Especially by Dellenger

I was just curious if the actual amount made a difference
Is a salary of 20k for 3 years any different that a salary of 150k for 3 years in the eyes of the NCAA?

As I read it I thought not a really big deal, then this thread blew up with gloom and doom.

So am I understanding this right..... a person associated with OLOL stole over 800K?

I understand OLOL is the go to medical center for LSU but with that being said, this is linked to the one person who embezzled money, not someone at LSU.

OLOL was looking for the lost money in all areas but now that it's been confirmed that it's associated with this one guy, that's sort of all there is to it.

Is this correct? I'm really asking.

What’s happened to the money has yet to be explained. My guess is it’s up to the one arrested if he stays quiet or sings like a canary.

This guy was the CEO of OLOL Foundation which is the fundraising arm of the hospital

Took 810k
Investigation found money going to gift cards, chartered flights...

2 instances money was connected to LSU:
1) not an NCAA violation although they didn’t go into specifics
2) a salary was paid to a parent of a student athlete, the student athlete attended LSU 2012-2015

Has nothing to do with current basketball situation

"100% True SEC Sports Page
100% True SEC Sports Page Michael LeBlanc that was the part of the audit report that wasn’t redacted. And you’re right it’s not a big deal. Funnes and his brother are super huge LSU boosters. This isn’t something that happened overnight. This has been long suspected. As soon as the news dropped that Funnes was fired this past November because of embezzling money, the same stories that were suspected came back up to the surface. And you now have Tasha, the biggest LSU social media mouth piece, coming over here to discredit my post. She knows this story has legs. She’s also connected with many key people at LSU and TAF.. this tells me the smoke from the story has a fire source. And this is not some new story. This has been widely talked about in many circles including the LSU sports media. My personal angle is I’m sick of the political toxicity that has ruined our state and our flagship institution. People are afraid to even talk about this story. Such a typical Louisiana reaction. Why politicians and the powerful steal public funds, make shady deals and kill our industry and future here. Not me . The threats one being a death threat I received tells me this story has legs. I’m sick and embarrassed as a LSU alum and lifelong fan that crap continues with no objection and total lack of transparency and accountability."

Those are the only two instances that were UNREDACTED in the Report. It is the REDACTED money-flow information that should have you in the fetal position right now.

This is correct. How far do the Feds want to take this stuff. Info is and is not released to the public in thousands of instances a year.

This is just beginning fwiw. On the LSU end. This isn't the finish line for those championing the "nothingburger" line that I see a gang of Ree's using.

So we have a single instance of a player’s parent being provided a job? But it’s ok to pay for an entire family to move from Hawaii to Tuscaloser?

But those were the 2 instances connected to LSU correct? From how it sounded the rest of the redacted information has no connection to LSU
