took thumbtacks and used them to keep my headliner from sagging and touching my head in my old s-10 Blazer.
If I had I do over, I would not have used the flat headed tacks. When they fall, they sometimes land upright. It's great for a laugh when it's not in your seat...lol.
I've wired tied many things. I've went months rolling down the window to open the door from outside handle, inside was broke. I used strips cut from a larger rubber hose and some ring clamps to repair fittings in and out of oil filter housing on large boat with an old Detroit motor. I'd bet those fittings are still clamped the same exact way today.
Otherwise I typically have always just fixed my stuff correctly.

Had a 1973 Mercury Capri. Every so often the exhaust pipe would separate from the manifold and that was freaking loud. Couldn't repair it, so I took 2 c-clamps and clamped the pipe to the manifold at the bracket. Wired the c-clamps to the firewall with baling wire so I wouldn't lose them if they fell off. Good times.

1990 Nissan pickup. We lost the key, started it with a flat head screw driver for a few years.

My math teacher taught me how to hot wire a car when I lost the keys. Never found those keys.

Pulling a 40 foot drop deck loaded with hay into New Orleans. Throttle linkage breaks while I’m crossing the Bonne Carre. Pulled onto the “shoulder.” Found an old stick in the toolbox and used that along with hay string off a couple of bales to rig a handheld throttle. Left the hood cracked and ran the string out the engine compartment, around the windshield, and into the driver side vent window. Cranked her back up and drove on into N.O. with the throttle in my left hand, stick shift in my right, and steering with my knees.

Dammit. Then what could it have been that he mounted on his rear bumper?
It had hoses to it and he mounted it on 2x4 that was strapped to the bumper.

Had an overflow tank bust on a drag car, cut the bottom out of a mountain dew bottle zip tied it on the core support, ended up winning that event. That bottle helped me win 15k that weekend (biggest pay out I've ever won)

Rattling exhaust. Hose clamps. Cheap effective fix.

I pissed in the radiator once when the truck overheated while my buddies and I were trying to get away from the Russians.

Fuel pump went out on old Blazer. Drained windshield wiper spray jug. Rerouted hoses in place of inline fuel filter. Filled with siphoned gas. Made it to next exit while pumping dash switch.

Holy shite. That’s genius.

windshield wiper motor on my truck quit working. Tied trot line string to the blade and ran through the vent window of the truck. My girlfriend's job was to operate the wipers by pulling the string at the right speed when it rained.

I have used black pepper to clog a hole in my radiator.
A guy that worked for me plugged a tire with two cigarette butts....tire man was impressed.
I have heard of old timers using pantyhose as a fan belt.

Not really a car but, I was way back in the woods on my four wheeler. A nut came off of the steering suspension, making one wheel go toward 12 o'clock and the other, about 2:15. I put the rod back in the hole, then wrapped a ratchet strap around it, tightening it up to hold the assembly together.
It did not ride perfectly but it was good enough to get me out of the woods.

Had a VW Bug and as usual the floor below the battery rotted out. I cut out the rotted floor and enough that a roasting pan to be welded to the edges. I can't take credit for coming up with that but it worked like a charm.
Had the electric motors fans, that cool the radiator, stop working (not the VW). I gave a few good wacks with a hammer and they started working. Same goes for the motors for the windows.
