quote:

President Donald Trump told Breitbart News on Monday that his administration is thinking “very seriously” about labeling violent Mexican drug cartels, or factions of these cartels, as Foreign Terrorist Organizations (FTOs). Asked by Deputy Political Editor Amanda House during a wide-ranging, exclusive Oval Office interview with Breitbart News whether his administration is considering designating factions of cartels, or cartels as a whole, as terrorist groups, Trump replied that he is.

quote:

“We are. We are,” Trump said. “We’re thinking about doing it very seriously. In fact, we’ve been thinking about it for a long time.” “It’s psychological, but it’s also economic,” Trump continued. “As terrorists — as terrorist organizations, the answer is yes. They are.” The president went on to discuss the violence taking place in Mexico. “Mexico, unfortunately, has lost control of the cartels,” Trump said. “They’ve totally lost control of the cartels. Mexico last year had 42,000 deaths — murders — 42,000. It’s considered one of the most unsafe countries in the world.” “Now, I’m with them. I really like the new president. He’s a wonderful guy, but you know, 42,000 murders. A lot of it is drug-induced,” Trump continued.

Many of us on here have been proponents of this from the beginning. The precedent has been set:

Noriega
Escobar
El Chapo

How much fun will it be to watch Democrats actually defend brutal drug kingpins.

This is gonna be fun!

This mean we can designate Mexico as state sponsors of terrorism?

Or, more accurately, a wholly owned subsidiary?

They would have to be labeled as such. Unfortunately, that would mean placing sanctions and discontinuing trade with one of our largest partners.

Conclusion: It'll never happen.

So is this something that a-hole judge in Hawaii can strike down or the Dems try passing a law that he can't?

I agree with Trump that Mexican cartels need to be eliminated. The issue isnt the sentiment, but how does he plan to do this.

A large part of the Cartel network is US criminals in cahoots with the cartel. It isnt just stopping some petty street gangs. These people have connections across the border that make selling drugs so easy. Also, making a commitment into stopping the Cartels is akin to our current situation in the middle east.

I'm a skeptical. Does he really want to invest in military personnel and agents to stop cartels. Or is he looking for another reason to build the wall. I hope its the former. We already have enough reasons to build the wall, we just need funding.

..."may"...

If there's no downside to it, then what's to think about?

Interesting timing, just when the new mexican government is actually taking some strong actions to stop corruption at all levels.

hunt them down. at the end of the day, we would make short work of all these "rough, tough gangs".

just gotta take the gloves off and those foolish, devil worshiping, brain-washed pieces of shite wouldn't last long at all.

it would be an unbelievably easy joke to wipe them from the earth.

Seems to me that designating them as terrorist organizations would make it easier for folks down there to claim asylum and flee here.

No thanks, they’re just gangs.

We don’t need more excuses to let them all in.

I can hear leftist wimps now, bleating about survivors of terrorism needing asylum.

Do you really think the wall will have an actual impact on the drug trade? You can call them what you want and build all the walls you want but it doesn't address the real issues. As long as the demand and the black market profits (results of the war on drugs) are at all time highs the supply will find a way

True. Walls will slow down illegal immigration, but it can’t stop airlines, boats and paid off agents from smuggling drugs and cartel members.
