I knew it was happening, but that is sickening to hear a number put to it.

So now we're keeping lobster fisherman afloat like the Iowa corn farmers. Who's next?

Illegal immigration is also an insult to taxpayers, Rand.

Sad!

Facebook memes need to go away.

Check out who the majority purchaser of that stuff is: DoD.

Lobster is one of the few treats soldiers get when deployed (about once every other week). I would guess that’s where the majority of that number is coming from.

That is getting close to the amount spent by SNAP card users on lobster each month.

If this is accurate then fine but I highly suspect a lot of wasteful spending is our state dept and other govt agencies. What about all the ammo and weapons non law enforcement govt. agencies all bought, for what?

Always heard about them but never actually saw them or got one myself... Maybe I was just unlucky but odds are I would have seen one if they were as common as you suggest...

Back yonder in the day, they would have it about once per week at the bigger bases (Victory, Taji, Anaconda, Balad, etc.). Lobster and steak night - we would time our rotations back in from the COPs on those nights to try to be there if we could. I saw it a few times in Kuwait as well, though not as often. ETA: I am also fairly sure submariners get stuff like that as a perk for being underwater for six months.

It's kind of expensive to get it to those places, obviously. If my math is right, $4.5M covers roughly 2 - 3X per month for a couple hundred thousand soldiers. That seems about right.

We're at the point right now where I read the headline and my first thought was, "I'm surprised it is that little."
