Would you eat a US army field ration from 1942?

This guy did. LINK
I can’t imagine what kind of projectile diarrhea eating a 75 year old C ration would cause, but I’m betting it looked like Patton’s 3rd Army rolling across France after breaking out of his colon.

Hell no...that is a historic artifact and doesn't deserve to be eaten!
Hell, I even feel bad when I eat a modern-day MRE. Of course, part of the reason I feel bad is because I have eaten a couple of days worth of calories in the span of a few minutes!

How hungry am I?
I’d eat it aftermath of nuclear war.
Maybe even before.

This video randomly popped up in my YouTube suggestions. I didn’t even think he’d open the can, but he did. Then he starts eating and enjoying the frick out of it.

I’d definitely smoke the cigarettes and I don’t even smoke.

If canned properly 100 year old food is good eats
The steamboat Bertrand was heavily laden with provisions when it set out on The Missouri River in 1865, destined for the gold mining camps in Fort Benton, Mont. The boat snagged and swamped under the weight, sinking to the bottom of the river. It was found a century later, under 30 feet of silt a little north of Omaha, Neb.
Among the canned food items retrieved from the Bertrand in 1968 were brandied peaches, oysters, plum tomatoes, honey, and mixed vegetables. In 1974, chemists at the National Food Processors Association (NFPA) analyzed the products for bacterial contamination and nutrient value. Although the food had lost its fresh smell and appearance, the NFPA chemists detected no microbial growth and determined that the foods were as safe to eat as they had been when canned more than 100 years earlier.

The guy narrating this video as he eats sounds like a mixture of Bob Ross and Keanu Reeves.

Bruh, he's eaten a bit of a cracker from the Civil War before. He has no bounds.

I don't know why I find this guy so entertaining. I guess its the curiosity. I once found a can of soup cleaning out a house that expired 20 years prior. I couldn't help but open it. It has seperated into multiple layers like oil/water.

You can go down a serious rabbit hole with this guy. He tests all kinds of MREs from all kinds of countries from all different years. The old French MREs had Liquor in them.

You do realize the nutritional content on the stuff in MREs totals out to about 2,500 calories, right?

I’m not sure how edible that was back in the 1940s, let alone now.
I’m also wondering if it had the opposite effect given that most rations are given nicknames like Meals Refusing to Excrete.

The WWI care packages used to have some form of opiate and a syringe in them IIRC.
