Lack of Institutional Control

Wade had to suspended to avoid the NCAA’s fearsome lack of institutional control and it’s “death penalty”.

Institutional control refers to the efforts institutions make to comply with NCAA legislation and to detect and investigate violations that do occur. NCAA member institutions are obligated to maintain appropriate levels of institutional control.

1. No infractions have even been alleged yet, much less investigated.
2. If you really think suspending Wade is going to work in LSU’s favor if the NCAA wants to come down with the hammer...well, I really can’t help you.
3. Nobody will ever get the “death penalty” again. Too much collateral damage, too many “innocent” parties lose money. SMU taught them that lesson. That destroyed a whole conference.

If Penn State avoided the death penalty, LSU wouldn't get it for this
Besides, SMU was years of consistent payments that continued despite the NCAA coming in and telling them to stop
LSU hasn't even been accused of cheating by anyone that matters yet

What could undermine institutional control worse than “well we tried to meet with the coach but he refused so we let it go”?
You’re kidding yourself if you don’t think an NCAA investigation is coming after the FBI is done.

Lack of Institutional Control
If it is proven that Wade was running an out of control corrupt recruiting racket while at LSU and the Admin did/knew nothing of it.... that is i Lack of Institutional Control.

Lack of institutional control gets leveled at various programs at various schools almost every year.
It absolutely does not equal the death penalty. It involves lack of scholarships for a few years, probation for a few more, vacating wins, and a one year post season ban usually.
And it only affects the program in question, not the entire athletics dept. It’s definitely not fun, but it’s not nearly as bad as y’all are making it out to be.
The death penalty was something they used to use back in the 70’s and 80’s as a sometimes punishment for lack of institutional control. But they weren’t synonymous. And as people have said, the NCAA basically said they’re never doing that again after SMU

Penn State didn’t break any NCAA rules.
Should’ve probably gotten no penalty from that governing body.
Just a bad comparison.

If this was the gross insubordination that some people are making it out to be, you don’t suspend CWW. It’s grounds for termination.
That story about a “meeting” was Alleva/Alexander covering their asses. The decision to suspend Wade had been made whether he showed up or not.

Maybe. Maybe not.
If there is one, we’ll see what it turns up. But you let the process PLAY OUT. Without damaging yourself, if possible.
And that’s where Alleva/Alexander failed. Now LSU just LOOKS guilty of something.

Yeah. In the early 1970s.
Welcome to 2019. There’s way more money involved now.

True, but they had a LOT of infractions.
“The basketball team was found guilty of over 120 violations. Most of them involved small cash payments to players, letting players borrow coaches' and boosters' cars, letting players use university credit cards to buy gas and buying clothes and other objects for players. However, the most severe violations involved masssive academic fraud. In the most egregious case, an assistant coach altered a recruit's high school transcript and forged the principal's signature. Several boosters arranged for surrogates to take college entrance exams for prospective recruits. The NCAA Council found the violations so egregious that it wanted to throw Southwestern Louisiana out of the NCAA altogether.”

No team will ever receive the death penalty again...Hell they won’t even receive no tv punishments anymore.

Even if they prove Wade did it, there won’t be a death penalty. Have you looked around NCAA basketball right now? There would be a lot of death penalties flying around and with the schools involved it would pretty much collapse the sport. I’d be surprised if they’re able to prove Wade did anything at all, but I doubt we keep him now since Alleva went full on pussy and suspended him without any proof he paid anyone. Would you want to work for someone like that?

That wasn't unique in the 1970s.
