Not exactly but I did have a situation where 2 things happened due to superior mishap that got blamed on me. I was literally told I should have reminded my boss or had placed higher emphasis on something I turned in.

Your owner needs to start a preventive maintenance program - fix it before it breaks.

Yeah, a start up company with 2 men that I had previously worked for at another company that they owned. They had several subsidiaries, but sold/ dissolved all except one and opened it up as a standalone.

Their new company had been in business for nearly 24 months and things were stagnant at best.

Only one of them knew the game as it was played out in the trenches, and even he knew little. He was a hustler though, and a salesman, and a good one. The other one knew nothing about his business, and had no idea that he didn't know chit from shinola, but he did have multiple established lines of credit and deep rooted connections in the industry that supplied us with crucial materials to perform our services; so that's where he "contributed". To clarify, both were- and are- good and knowledgeable men. Knowing the trenches is where I came in as GM. They also wanted to do a seller financed business sale with me and make the transition over a 5 year period and retire. Twelve months after the day I arrived revenue was up 1600% and that's being conservative. The next year, we went from less than $250k in revenue before I arrived to averaging that much in new contracts in a WEEK.

The company was growing and so was its reputation, but so was the stress. After single-handedly managing 300 employees spread out from Michigan to NOLA on fluid ever-changing jobsites, multiple, poorly executed and unannounced PM hires made by the guy in the office without my oversight and who had no idea what we needed in a PM because he knew nothing about field ops, other "possible" stakeholders in the business sale cropping up along the way (like a long time secretary who waddled in at 7 am and was pulling out of the parking lot by 3pm), a failing young marriage, a growing disdain for staying on a computer and phone in an office and truck cab, and growing VERY tired of the finger pointing and lack of responsibility by the owners and other grown arse men and women, I put in my 2 months notice and never looked back, even after multiple appeals to stay.

It was not easy either: that was my baby and I worked and sacrificed and had full-intent to buy it. To walk away from that was heartbreaking-devastating- but man did it also feel good. You gotta make moves in life for doors to open and close, and, even as screwed up as this world has become, even as we are constantly stripped of the most basic of freedoms, if you make moves and doors open and close, if you're in the right mindset, you can STILL make positive things happen that arise from taking action.

Of course, the entire way that events unfolded was way more complicated than even this long arse post can describe for all 2 people still reading up to this point, but to this day they still call me with questions and my last day was August 11th 2016. I found out later that they'd lost all of the big "bread and butter" contracts, had been run off from the federal contracts that ran into the millions due to not maintaining their federal contracting license, and overall are back to where they started by just getting by.

I still talk to and still am friends with the owners and some employees, and I wished no ill-will on any of them. Their families depend on their income.

But a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do, and if you contribute, your absence will be noted and even probably missed- if even for a short time.

Point your finger at me, but 3 are pointing right back at cha.

Yeah, I worked for a hospital corporation named Triad. That was essentially company policy.

Haha, well the answer to the question is not exactly one that can be edited for Twitter... I always assume the OP, being the one to ask for the dialogue, would be the only one to read it. I'm just a fast typing and reading kind of person. A self-proclaimed savant, if I may.

It's a complicated thing, and if you just said, "yeah", then what?

For sure I'd never start a thread with all that rubbish text.

I worked for one of those for years. In hindsight, I think is was to keep from ever handing out raises or bonuses. The cool thing is, when you move on for more money you quickly find out that you are more talented than most of your field. You gained skills by shooting for perfection.

If everyone else is pointing their fingers at you then you need to get introspective and take a good hard look at yourself and what you're doing. You also need to look at how you interact with your coworkers and figure out what you're doing to piss them off that much and stop doing it.

I managed a union shop that employed a lot of ex-Navy Chiefs electrical. Most were submariners. I loved their attitude.

If they screwed up, without a fault, they would ask me, "are you going to fire me"? I would reply, "no, this is a counseling session".

Their reply..."Well f*&$ this dog and pony show...have you ever been "rimmed"?

Great bunch of guys and overqualified for the job they were doing, but they were paid well.

If you get blamed for something and you did it, admit to it. If you didn't do it, learn from it and go someplace else.
