Dem obstructionism blocking attempts to cut the deficit by conservative is what I'm going with. Resist! has consequences.
Point to me where, in the years that the GOP had control of the house, they passed a budget with no deficits, or even reduced deficits.

Sounds like y'all need to kill more babies to help balance this out!

65% of the Entire Federal Budget is Social Spending, including Social Security, Medicare, and Welfare.
Two of the three which are currently being paid for. The current deficit / debt doesn't even consider how f'd we will be when that is no longer the case.
We aren't going to cut Social Security and Medicare spending and redirect FICA tax dollars to the general fund.
Yes, welfare spending needs to be cut - by a lot.

How is it?
Better than it would be under a Democrat like Hillary.
This is so sad. We now measure our conservative values by saying "hey we aren't as bad as Hillary!!!"
The Republican Party - and it's sycophants on boards like this - no longer has any compass or foundation. Everything is simply "well the Democrats would be worse". While that is true... why not have some of your own ideas and backbone?
Be better.

It's not

But not only is spending not being cut to compensate, spending is up 8.8 percent.
This is the problem. I support cutting spending.

Everyone wants programs cut except for the ones they use
Senior citizens are among the biggest supporters of Republicans, but they flip out if you dare talk about cutting social security or medicare budgets.
Kind of like congress. Everyone hates everyone else's congressman but likes their own.

The reality is Trump has a lot more in common with the GOP
Agree but there are Dems in office today that relate more to the GOP than the Dem party; they won't admit it tho

it's pathetic that "we aren't as shitty as the other side" is what passes for success these days.
Fact

It's not conservativism. They'll have no answer. They don't have principles. They're hypocrites. They will call you names.
In all fairness, neither Republicans or Democrats care about the deficit, the debt, or the long term financial viability of the country. They only give it lip service when "the other party" is in office.

Republicans only care about the deficit when a democrat is in office

Did the prolonged government shutdown contribute to this at all?
Is this a collection / reporting anomaly that will average out?
I don’t know the answer. I’m only asking. When looking at that number over that time period, I wonder if there is a hidden reason.

Doesn't Trump sign the budgets? Or, since we haven't had a budget in years, the CRs? So, he could veto these spending bills if he wanted to. He doesn't get off the hook.
We saw what happened with the shutdown.
Even if Trump vetoes these shite budgets, they have enough carve outs in there to guarantee veto overrides.
And when Trump refuses to sign a budget and shuts the government down, the media steps in with the propaganda about how federal workers are suffering.
I do agree Trump should veto these budgets and force congress to override.

Obamacare removal (while a good idea) isn't a budget.

How is Trump supposed to reduce spending by himself? Congress controls the purse. Congress makes all decisions based on money. Executive branch is supposed to enforce it, right? Isn’t that exactly what all you leftists were spouting off about last week with the ED?
So everyone who blamed Obama for our rising debt was full of shite?

So what are you bitching about? Tax cuts or spending? I honestly can't tell

Oh, and for those of you who are fans of trickle-down economics,
please define "trickle-down economics" for us before you start attributing hypothetical fandom with respect to the term.
One definition of the term makes the phenomenon as inevitable as gravity, so you are clearly burdening the term with some other values besides simple facts of the universe and human nature.
The issues of wealth and resource distribution cannot be reduced to your straw-man phrase, couched as some dumb gotcha "fan of" meme.

Shouldn't be. During the shutdown, the apparatus that collects federal monies was kept running.
