Making the turn on canal from St Charles is just incredible. So many people everywhere. It's just insane. Like you said, indescribable.

So trashy, boobs, drunks, etc etc.

Mardi Gras is awesome and there are all kinds of awesome to be had. If you want drunken debauchery, there is a place for that. If you want a good family atmosphere, there is a place for that. All of these people commenting about how trashy it is have never spent a Saturday by St. Stephens for the first week (local’s Mardi Gras).

I was coming to post this. The turn onto St. Charles by Superior is something but that turn onto Canal is amazing.

Has this thread gone about as I thought it would? A bunch of people from Baton Rouge, Shreveport and out of state saying how much they hate it?

I'm from Shreveport and live out of state. I love Mardi gras and we never miss one.

Yep. I ride in Thoth and most of the route goes through great family areas. I've never seen boobs flashed in the 8 years I've ridden.
I'm sure the night parades are different.

It's easy to avoid the trashy folks while uptown. I also spend a lot of time on Bonnebel in Metairie and except for Mardi Gras day, it's super chill and all family.

How trashy is it being a part of an organization that dedicates itself to helping sick kids?

Yeah I ride right behind you and I'm getting titties out all night. That starts past uptown though when you get downtown and especially on canal. The later and drunker they are, the easier they go.

We also have a balcony in the quarter Saturday before Endymion and titties fly all day.

So you mean to tell me there are different kinds of Mardi Gras experiences and if you want to avoid puke (eww) and titties (yay!) you can hang out with the families uptown? You mean NOLA isn’t just the quarter? My mind is officially blown.

Yeah that's exactly what it is:

This was yesterday afternoon Uptown, and the way to do it. It's almost like a tailgate. Not too crowded; you can sit in a chair if you want. Food and drink set up. Room to walk around. Little kids playing; moms & dads and friends and mawmaws and pawpaws having a drink or two and interacting. And a parade (yesterday, FOUR of them) goes by and throws stuff for the kids to catch.

IT"S SATANIC, I TELL YA!!!

Would it really be mardi gras without some edgy a-hole making sure everyone knew they were too mature for mardi gras?!

Nah, ole baw from Pennsylvania living in Florida is a Mardi gras expert.

I've been to several parades and down to the quarter too. and I've spent a lot of time in Baton Rouge. How many parades do you need to see to become an expert? Seen one seen them all.

My friend who has a place down there went on and on about how I needed to see Endymion and Orpheus. I did and was unimpressed. If that's the best Mardi Gras has to offer, you know it is a sorry state.

I did go to Mobile during Mardi Gras and FWIW it sucked too.

Really carnival only looks like fun in the islands or in Brazil.

The floats are horrible. The Electric parade over here and the Rose Bowl Parade house the New Orleans style floats with a farm tractor pulling them around.

The whole thing just seems like an excuse to be drunk in the street. And you wonder why Fortune 500s pass over LA for TX and FL.

i love mardi gras. I travel there every year.

But I don't really hit that many of the big parades. We leave on Weds. And the only big parade we will definitely hit is Muses, which we know several riders in. My buddy really wants to do bacchus, so we will probably do that too.
