Pretty racist post if you ask me.

Dec. 20, 2016 - The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) has confirmed photographic evidence of a cougar sighting in northeast Louisiana on Nov. 23. An LDWF biologist conducted a site investigation that confirmed the authenticity of a trail camera picture submitted to the department.

The mountain lion, cougar, panther or puma are all names that refer to the same animal. Its color ranges from light tan to brownish grey. The only species of big cats that occur as black are the jaguar and leopard. Jaguars are native to South America and leopards to Africa. Both species can occur as spotted or black, although in both cases the spotted variety is much more common.

Yes he did. I heard the story from my grandmother numerous times as well as from her parents, and my great aunts and great uncles.

That doesn't mean it happened. And we know this because it didn't.

Now think about the fact that no one has produced one single valid photo of a panther outside of Florida.
So much confusion

There are panthers all around the western states

There are no black panthers anywhere in the entire world

There are jaguars and leopards than can be black

However, Jags are mainly in south america and leopards are mainly in Asia/Africa

There have been Jags found in arizona recently, but it was a spotted Jag

the ones in Arizona were Jaguars and not black jaguars at that

just regular spotted jaguars

the black color phase occurs in less than 10% of jaguars

I would venture to say that at least 50% of the claims of a panther being seen are of black panthers

cougars/pumas/mountain lions yes they have been confirmed here but never in history has a black cougar/puma/mountain lion been confirmed anywhere including captivity

people have been brainwashed by stories from your aunts and uncles and camp mates that these things exist

urban legend

news flash: the rougaroo ain't real either

What about a golden panther? I have it on good authority that there was a golden panther sighting on La Hwy 15 in Richland Parish a few years ago.

This! I don’t understand why people insist on calling them panthers, there is no such thing as a black panther, jaguars or leopards, depending on which part of the world they are in.

There is no such thing as a "panther" as a individual animal within a species period. It is a term derived from the scientific genus comprised of most large cats.

"Panthera is a genus within the Felidae family that was named and first described by the German naturalist Lorenz Oken in 1816. The British taxonomist Pocock revised the classification of this genus in 1916 as comprising the species lion, tiger, jaguar, and leopard on the basis of cranial features. Results of genetic analysis indicate that the snow leopard also belongs to the Panthera, a classification that was accepted by IUCN Red List assessors in 2008. "

Black panthers have been reported in Overflow NWR for years. Right along the LA/AR line.

It moved like a house cat, very nonchalantly and meandering.

A panther/cougar/mountain lion would likely move much more stealthy and efficiently in the daylight, especially during hunting season when many people are in the woods.

Hard to scale the size of an animal in a video like this.

I agree. But I did see the panther -- looked to me more like it expired from a rattlesnake bite than from a bullet wound.

So based on your wiki copy and paste logic, you call a peacock by the genus name of pavo?
Not trying to hijack the thread, but I assure you if you ask any biologist they would tell you there is absolutely no such thing is a black panther.
