That’s one of the few parts of BR that’s worth going out to, not just another cookie cutter cluster of chains. You could burn down 98% of BR and I wouldn’t give a frick but that’s part of the 2% that has cultural relevance.

From an Advocate article last month.
"State officials have said previously work would begin in 2019 or 2020. The widening is expected to take 5-8 years."

The area below it is concrete, gravel and buildings. The area around it is concrete and buildings with some decorative greenery. They are not reducing/paving over the water shed. They are not altering drainage patterns. They are not displacing native wildlife. A fricking environmental impact study is unnecessary and wasteful.

Martini is correct. This project is a total nightmare. The problem is that in order to proceed any further in the design portion, the environmental document or agreement must be approved and finalized. After that, it cannot change more than a very limited amount or it must go back thru the process. This procedure or regulation is not originated by state government. It is federal law. Blame the retards in DC who make it so difficult to get thru the initial phases of a project.

I fully blame the leaches up in DC for putting onerous and burdensome regulations in place in order to grease their pockets for this delay.

This entire process irrationally pisses me off because we are letting paper work get in the way of getting the job done and it’s inefficient as hell

No, obviously there are no wetlands impacted. But cultural/historical is lumped in as environmental.
Also, you people do realize an engineering consultant is the one doing the work, right? You should be asking why they're late.

Again just because an evironmental impact isn’t readily apparent that doesn’t mean there isn’t any.

The project goes directly over a creek and a lake, wetlands are involved.
The project is vital, it needs to proceed, but this is La. Our deadheads don't get in a hurry, things are always late, but we continue to tolerate incompetence in govt. whether it's a criminal released, a small urban bridge that is rebuilt, sidewalk projects or road projects.

Going to look up how this widening of 1-10 compares to the widening of 290 in Houston. I know the 290 is a much larger project and population is rapidly growing at 165 new residents every day. 290 had to deal with moving businesses and a ton of utilities, etc.
I don't mean to hurt anyone's feelings just curious how the 2 projects compare as 290 has been a traffic nightmare for many years

This happens everywhere, not just LA. Plus, it's not like the government is doing the actual work. It's engineering consultants... Like someone said earlier in the thread, people don't understand all of the things that go into projects, especially major ones like this. It's a massive effort with tons of boxes to check. Right or wrong, or over-regulated as it may be, that's the way it is.
