The coaching staff is currently working on moving Hess back to his closing role. Mainieri realizes Hess is not a starter, but he is trying to get his younger guys innings so this move can be made. You can't throw these stud freshman into the fire. By mid-season, everyone will be happy. Geaux Tigers!

It certainly makes good sense. I love Hess, but I prefer him in short stints. I know Dunn and Mainieri will get it right.

How many pitchers in the rotation are injured? I knew about Easton McMurrays injury but not Hilliards

Hilliard hurt himself at the end of the year last year. If you watched the last several games, you’ll likely remember that. He is on the back end of his recovery.

Potential good thing for LSU is that he’ll likely get limited innings the first 4 weeks and could be peaking strength wise the back half of the year.

Sure sounds like an opinion. I thought Hess had to start last year, whether it was his best role or not, because of depth concerns. This year he doesn't HAVE to start, so he COULD be moved back to closer... But I'd be shocked if Mainieri made the switch this fast.

It seems like all but a certainty that Mainieri promising Hess a fair chance to remain a starter was a prerequisite to him returning this year.

Right. Hess May wind up back in the pen, but it’s not going to be because he had a shaky outing in the opening game of the year against ULM.
