He said it right off the top. The rest literally is making the case.

where are all the other Republicans? Where is Mitch McConnell? Just let em in McConnell. Is that it? where is the house minority leader? Why is Trump the only Republican trying to stop illegal immigration?

not one of them even has a backbone. it is pathetic.

Well maybe it was the diatribes into:
Chinese trade
UK trade
Brexit
Chinese drug problems
Military spending
Defense spending
Mexico murders
Etc
Etc
Etc

That lent to my confusion.

What are you talking about?

He's been on this for years. This isn't some monumental/new day or speech. Plus he knows he has to go through the courts to win this one.

He is intentionally making it out to be not a big deal. It's part of the sales pitch. He literally suggested that nobody has cared about previous declarations, implying the question why do you care now?

Promising the wall was his downfall from the beginning. He should have never promised something that will never be built. Not only promised, but made it the centerpiece of his presidency.

yep - this is my first great disappointment with Trump - I find nothing he has said today that soothes my fears at all.

He did not make the case - a case that is so obvious even I could have done it for him.

I cannot believe what I just watched - I'm going outside and kick the puppies and shoot the cardinals

Honestly, I think he'd get more support if he'd focus more on the economics than crime. Both are important, but make the argument that we can't be a welfare state for the rest of the world, though we sympathize for those looking for a better life and coming here. However we already have humanitarian crisis with poor and homeless in our country that need fixing, and we seem to be putting non-citizens needs before our own citizens (many veterans).

If this is such a huge humanitarian crisis, then other prosperous countries should offer to help. The burden shouldn't fall all on us. But since none of them are helping, the wall must go up.

The thing is, he's already stated this stuff many, many times. He's brought in professionals that stated it many, many times as well. He's tried everything and everyone knows what the deal is here. He doesn't have to say it all again, he's not changing any minds at this point.

He's basically reached the end of the rope, there's nothing left to say.

The speech was also about the Chinese trade deal. He's got a lot of things going on, he isn't beholden to one at a time.

And it helped dilute the EO, which is clearly his intent.

Chinese drug problems
Military spending
Defense spending
Mexico murders

This is all directly related to the border wall EO. Why would discussing that confuse you?

He was skipping from one topic to the next and then back. This may be the worst speach I've ever listened to.

What I'm saying is he never connected the dots. He just spit out half a talking point and moved on. Like he was given a template for the speech and just read off the list.

I cannot imagine being an absolute taint licking sycophant over a politician to the level you are over Trump who thinks he cannot do anything wrong at all.

It's one of the most pathetic things ever.

I just want to be clear. Did he say China doesn't have a drug problem?

quote:

Chinese people tend to regard widespread addiction to opium as one of the main causes of the country’s decline in the 18th and 19th centuries, and the Communist government has consistently enforced a zero-tolerance policy on drug offenses. Yet in recent years, the country has been engulfed in a series of scandals involving celebrities who use illegal drugs recreationally. These public figures usually consume synthetic drugs like ecstasy, methamphetamine, and ketamine.

LINK

And does he really believe a stupid fricking wall will stop the drug trade?

40% of the drugs from Mexico and South America come through the air. There is a good bit that comes from entry points. There are tunnels where drugs are smuggled in. But a wall is going to stop the problem.

And these drugs are not causing the addictions, it's just supplying demand. The addiction starts here.. at home.. Inside the country.

And as for as declaring a national emergency here is some info on it.

quote:

WASHINGTON — If President Donald Trump declares a national emergency at the nation’s southern border, it will be the 60th time a sitting president has used the National Emergencies Act since it was passed in 1976 – but he’ll be using it like no other president has.
