Some bullshite..The traffic is bad already!
Instead of using the BP money or any money from Katrina. Alabama would rather fund a football team.

Now we have to pay a toll to cross the mobile river. The toll is for the new bridge to be built. It will be taller than a Golden Gate and twice as Huey p long.

a bridge and a tunnel are two completely different things

Tolls are user pays, conservatives should embrace

So.. my understanding was that interstate tolls were not allowed under federal law unless either: a) the tolls already existed prior to the interstate system, or b) the tolls are on NEW infrastructure (not to include widening projects or improvements).

I’m trying to figure out how Mobile is skirting this, and it appears they are re-routing I-10 to cross the new bridge (which would be eligible for tolls). I guess that they can then ALSO add tolls to the existing tunnel because it’s no longer part of I-10?

Am I misunderstanding this? That seems kinda sketch.

So you clearly didn’t read the article you linked. They are building a new bridge that is bigger and will make traveling a lot easier and quicker. There will be no toll booths just electronic scanners. Most people won’t use the tunnel but rather the new bridge but to keep people from skipping tolls they are gonna put it in the tunnel as well

I thought they couldn't put tolls on federal interstate highways? Maybe I am off base?

That means the only free routes across the Mobile River will be the Cochrane Bridge or the Bankhead Tunnel.

shoot the traffic gets just as screwed down there during the summer than it does up on I-10.

getting to the Bankhead is a pain in the arse because of all the traffic lights on Govt.

and people know about the Cochrane Bridge now, that ship sailed.

isn't a big deal any other time of the year it seems like though unless there is a bad wreck on the Bay Way.

Sounds smart. I don’t see why you people are so against toll roads?

Maybe John Bel can buy the Mobile tunnel on the cheap and add it between the 2 bridges in Baton Rougeto help with traffic

LC is about to get a toll bridge over the Calcasieu River. It'll be 1/3rd the height of Golden Gate and 1/4th of the length of Huey P Long Bridge.....happy travels

So are you suppose to start holding your breath at the toll booth now or do you still wait until you actually enter the tunnel to begin?

Actually, they are smart. They have an Amazon depot and a WalMart regional Warehouse.

I have a buddy in Mobile who complains his city leaders are a joke. I remind him that they run circles around ours in BR.
