Will take affect over 6 years.
Any suggestions of States to move to?
Thankfully I'm finishing my bachelor's this semester, not paying a dime using veterans benefits, but this is my last semester.

The real minimum wage is 0 dollars

I was reading just yesterday that New York and Illinois both lost like 45 thousand people over the last couple of years. Gee, I can't imagine how.

Illinois just said goodbye to about 33% of their minimum wage jobs. Good work.

Meh. To the extent that skilled labor and unskilled labor are substitutes, it will benefit skilled labor by making unskilled labor relatively more expensive. This is why labor unions have been historically in favor of higher minimum wages. Not good at all for younger workers looking to gain labor market experience though. Especially young black males who tend to be hit hardest by minimum wage increases.

Sure, but prices will go up, unemployment will go up, and people will not get rises to adjust to cost of living. We already have 100+ people leaving daily - which with high property taxes - will frick the housing market.

Illinois is very similar to Louisiana in several ways. Both are complete dumpster fires, run by corrupt politicians at every level, and close to failing.

We're beyond failed. This was the final nail.

Lots of parents are taking advantage and sending their kids to the University of Alabama for college.

Texas but only if you are a conservative. Otherwise stay in your self-created hellhole.

All of these Dems like to point to Norway and Sweden as their model for how we should be but do they no realize that those countries have no minimum wage?

I served in the Marines for over a decade. The reason why I came back to Illinois is for free college (Illinois Veterans Grant) I have paid nothing for school, get paid to go, and still have enough education credit left for a master's - after completing two degrees in three years. I'm far from a lib and have worked for everything I have. Can't help that the state is shite because of corrupt politics from up North and this is where my family is.

Come to Tennessee. If it's what you prefer, we have a flat tax system in place. We have no income tax, and we're phasing out the Hall Tax (a tax on investments) by 2021. Land here is very cheap, and the public schools in suburban areas are great. We also have a program called Tennessee Promise, where everyone can earn an Associate's degree for free.
Make TN your home, MoT87.

I've heard very good things about Tennessee and have been considering it. I believe I made a post on the off-topic board a few months ago.
Thanks ES

This should work out swimmingly for Illinois. Funny how they are set on job deletion rather than reducing a murder ever 3 seconds in cha town
