It could easily be taxed to the companies and the individuals would receive it in the form of a state income tax credit. I don't think that is unreasonable, but it makes sense. Companies using your data without permission or with blanket releases shouldn't be the way it is done.

For example, you shouldn't be required to allow AT&T, Verizon, Comcast, etc. to use your private or personal information or data for commercial sales purposes to other entities as a part of a requirement to use their service. It's extortion at its finest when all the companies require this basically.

This is pretty stupid.CA just passed a law called the California consumer Privacy act where can residents can tell any company to stop selling their data and have rights to know exactly how it is being used. Goes into effect 1/1/2020. People are going to be opting out of that like crazy. That's how companies make so much money on data, by selling it.

Don't use their services so they don't have your data. My God, everyone thinks everything is free. This is how Facebook, Twitter, etc. make money needed to exist.

This isn’t a new concept. Microsoft gives you credit points for searching on Bing. Credit cards have done this for years with cash back bonuses.
