I remember reading a report a couple of years ago that showed if you remove the top and bottom 10% of congress, the remaining 80% made an average of $1.1 million per year in increased net worth. Not bad for a job that pays less than $300k.

I think a lot of people have gestalt ideas of "wealthy" and "middle class" but don't distinguish well the substantial differences in wealth strata. Bloomberg is roughly 10-ish times wealthier than Trump who is probably 30-ish times wealthier than Pelosi. Bezos is worth 15 or 20 Bloombergs.
It doesn't scale that way in most folks minds, tho.

These folks were wealthy before entering office.

A number of members are left off the list there are in the top 10, the total does not show hidden wealth overseas.

The only members of congress that aren't rich are the freshmen ones that just got there but give them a year or two and they'll be there.

Stolen Valor earned maybe $.02 of every dollar to his name.
The rest was the result of inheritance, marriage, extortion, or prostitution...

For decades it was legal for them and their staffs to benefit from insider trading.

This chart tells us nothing beyond there being about 123 dumb asses who are in debt trying to address the country's debt and spending habits.
Thomas Jefferson died roughly $2M in debt (adjusted to 2019).

Nah, she's worth about $16M (or 0.05 Kushners) according their report.
Why did you bring Kushner into this?
Dude you need therapy on yourself Doc

I thought congressmen had more wealth stacked away. Local guys like Cedric Richmond and Steve Scalise report negative net worth. Report cant be accurate.

Unlike the Clintons and Obamas

Damn, Jared Polis is 43 years old and already worth $120m. Looks like he made most of that in his 20s.

And that my friends does not even include the billions in kickbacks stashed away in Cayman Accounts ...

None of this means anything to me.

I would like to see a chart of wealth accumulation over time for members of congress. I bet that would be very telling.

I don't begrudge Pelosi her money.
But journalists deliberately miscovering it piss me off.
Pelosi's $2.2M Washington DC Address
Pelosi's $8.4M SF California Address
Pelosi's $7.9M St Helena/Napa California Address
This stuff is EASILY trackable.
Pelosi owns $18.5M in residences alone. Is it possible she doesn't own each of those residences outright? Sure.
Does she really own $18.5M in homes, with a net worth of only $16M. That is about as likely as AOC voting for Trump in 2020.
