screenwriting
yeah fiction writing does intrigue me. always has but i was always a big pussy about it
i think my current set of ideas can only go to short story/novella levels though

Short stories lend themselves to long screenplays. Might be a good start.
Just don't ever entertain the fantasy of selling a screenplay. Ever.

that's not a bad suggestion but i've done that already to the level i feel is worth it. same with cooking, but with cooking there is a lot more to try. BBQ is much more limited (despite what they try to imagine)

I’m 35 and recently picked up photography as a hobby. Specifically landscape photography because it allows me to go out into nature, just myself and my camera. Engages both sides of the brain. There’s plenty of photography competitions out there if that’s your thing.

I enjoy photography and would really like to get better at it. My wife and I upgraded our camera last Christmas but have almost exclusively used it for baby pictures.

a couple years ago (when my brain was humming) i thought about doing short docs, among other things. you can do some decent photog work with $500 DLSRs

I have a few ideas for movies:
1. A teenage coming of age musical romantic comedy about marching band
2. An animal-house esque college comedy about my dad’s frat stories at LSU in 1969
3. A medieval mix of Big Fish, Forest Gump, and Psych (buddy comedy where dudes lie their asses off to try and get out of trouble and accidentally end up at the center of major historical events told as a story from grandpa to son who doesn’t believe a word of it).
4. Sitcom centered around plant life, sorta like “Refined” on Youtube
5. Me, myself, and the devil inside me: a satircal sitcom about a straight-laced youth preacher who is, unknown to him or his goody-two-shoes controlling gf, possessed by a demon, and his stoner roommate who’s the only one who seems to notice. They get into wacky hijinks with angels and the occult trying to get the demon out of him. God is the building super, played by Billy Dee Williams

Aikido is an interesting martial art, as well. You'll get shite from keyboard warriors, but there's an intentional element of meditation embedded in it and it's one of neater arts out there. You'd probably enjoy kendo, as well, but that's pretty hard to find.

I believe they have a kendo studio in New Orleans.
I live between New Orleans and BR and I chose Iaido over kendo because I like the art of drawing and cutting over getting beat in the head with a Kendo stick

I did a shoot yesterday with an aspiring photographer. Lots of fun. He is enjoying learning about lighting, etc. Find an easygoing practice model or go for pretty scenery. The editing process is apparently very intense, yet satisfying.

Working on cars
Not only will you save money changing your own oil, but just having some knowledge on how cars run will help you a lot when dealing with gouging shithead mechanics
