I don’t know if anybody else has noticed this, but I get the feeling that a lot of people are moving out of Louisiana and relocating to other states. I’m 30, and most of my friends that I knew from church/high school have moved all around the country, some have even moved across the world.

Is this a trend in our state? Are most young people relocating for better job opportunities once they graduate college? Overall I just get the feeling more people are moving away than moving here.

Louisiana is falling far behind Texas in job opportunities. If you don't want to be an Engineer or Oilfield Baw, your opportunities are better if you leave than if you stay.

And that's the cold hard truth.

I and most my friends from college moved out of Mississippi, so I’m thinking this is only the case in crappy states.

One thing LA lacks is a lot of entry level to mid level jobs for college grads. Especially in professional fields such as accounting, engineering, legal, etc. We produce waaaay more grads than we can ever hope to employ. This has been going on for at least 30 years.

Some of them find their way back, many do not.

Louisiana doesn’t offer the same quality of life pound for pound that you can get in Texas and Georgia. Plain and simple. Those are the two states that steal the most La natives.

Taxes, lack of progressive/productive government, lack of quality public schools, lack of quality jobs, lack of quality infrastructure. The list goes on and on.

My man, the only thing left in Louisiana is family, food, and football. And that's not enough. I miss it, but life is better in Texas.

The only good things about louisiana are the family nostalgia, food and certain ways of life.

The strict laws alone is enough to run anyone off. Lots of bullshite politics in louisiana.

Not many people that I know have left but the job market is terrible if you don’t have connections or a degree in high demand. If I lost my job I would have no problem leaving.

People realize they can have a better quality of life in other states. Many move to Texas cause they can have the better quality of life....but are close enough to easily visit older family members stuck in their ways and hellbent on staying in LA forever.

We moved about 6 months ago.

Benefits: Between the two of us it was a $55k raise, we don’t pay state income tax, public schools aren’t shite, and we got way more house for the money. Traffic also doesn’t compare whatsoever to BR’s hellhole traffic issues.

Cons: Food is different; which seems to be a benefit people from LA love to cling to. “Sure we have a major budget deficit, failing schools and corrupt as frick government but have you ever had a poboy?”
