Sean McVay ignorantly refers to gumbo as "soup"

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. -- Sean McVay couldn't help himself. Marcus Peters was addressing what had become the dominant storyline heading into the NFC Championship Game, and the Los Angeles Rams' young, exuberant head coach tried to play along.
"Let me get some of that soup!" McVay shouted from a hallway that resides roughly 50 feet from the lectern behind which Peters stood Wednesday afternoon, drawing a chuckle from the All-Pro cornerback.
Above: the exceptional gumbo at Stanley! in Jackson Square. Not to be confused with soup.

Depends on how thick you make it...
Soup and stew are discriminated by amount of water.

I do not like okra in my chicken-sausage gumbo.
To call it "soup" is not a big fricking deal.

That is a chicken and sausage stew.
Probably pretty good, but not gumbo.

Gumbo IS soup. Stew is soup. So is chowder, consommé, and gazpacho. It’s all soup.

Gumbo is definitely a stew, however I usually prefer the soupier varieties.

If Gumbo is not soup just about every restaurant in South Louisiana has been lying at least one day a week as long as I can remember.
I have never eaten Stew of the day.

All the silly shite they are saying is making me more nervous. Their level of relaxation makes me think they know something we don’t.

Give me poboy rounds over crackers any day.
You gotta soak that shite up, and crackers don't get the job done.

Does it matter what utensil you eat it with? Stews are eaten with a fork and soups, with a spoon.
I serve gumbo with both spoon and fork, so maybe this dish is un classifiable. Gumbo, the platypus of the food world!

I can see how that could happen.
Elaine on Seinfeld once referred to gumbo as soup as well.
