I hate that place. GP has one of the worst company cultures I have ever experienced.
Short term it will hurt. Long term most of the employees will be better off.
Yeah... the culture there has been very toxic for several years. (Past layoffs, Union vs Non-union related issues etc)

That's practically next door in paper mill miles. I'm about that far from one, and with a north wind I smell it on the regular.

Damn, I wouldn't have thought it would go that far

The Office predicted this years ago.

Police are escorting workers out today from what I hear.
I imagine the aftershocks will affect the timber, logging, and trucking industries.

From what I heard from the workers last night, the big shift was the company being bought out by the Koch brothers and then bringing in a manager to run things whose attitude was “I’m going to change the whole culture here.”

Firing 650 will do that nicely. Mission accomplished. Fat bonus incoming.

Nah fam. It's not overwhelming but you def. notice it. Especially on a humid windy day.

This is after about 5-7 years of poisoning the culture at the plant to where people left or were only making time until they hit retirement.

SOP when you have that many people getting whacked all at once. It's proactive to head off trouble.
650 angry people is one hell of a riot.

No. Police were just there for the meeting with the worker. I got info incorrect.

SOP in a lot of layoffs, mainly to keep anyone from sabotaging things on their way out the door.
This kind of thing is done a lot in the IT world where someone with admin rights can frick you six ways from Sunday very quickly if they’re pissed.

This is why you've hidden a zero day Easter egg ahead of time.

Not always.
Having access to the backups can be as useful or more useful depending on what you want to do with it.

They shut down for a while during the recession, didn't they?

GP Port Hudson actually had an IT person do exactly this after getting layed off a few years ago. Except he was able to do it remotely and fricked up all kinds of shite

That I don’t know. Only lived there since 2012 and don’t work at the plant so my frame of reference is limited by what I hear from people working there or their relatives.
