They absolutely cannot disconnect 'illegal immigrants' from overall immigration in their heads for some reason.

Trump literally said at one of his very first campaign speeches that he "absolutely wants all immigrants to come to this country, as long as they do it legally" and has preached that since.

We are a nation of citizens. Legal citizens? Why do you think the immigrants who originally came here landed on Ellis Island?
They were not allowed to be on the main land until they were vetted and quarantined. Every one of them.

If that's the "truth," then it is a hollow tautology since all countries are countries of "immigrants" using that definition. Some countries (which are all countries of immigrants mind you) have strict borders, others not so much.
