what would the dimensions of a full grown hedge be? i mean, how far off of my property line should i plant them to give me enough room to pass with a lawnmower on the other side? can i keep them trimmed 10'x20' or it has to be round?

Ever run across Baccharis? That's another one that wasps love.

Wasps love anything that's thick and provides protection from the elements.

Well they don't love my wax myrtles. They fear me.

I'm thinking about sweet viburnum for a privacy fence. I never got around to it last year.

Wax Myrtle's latin name is loosely translated to "Wasp-bush".

Were you beat up by a wasp nest inside a wax myrtle when you were younger or something?

I'd love to hear it. I apologize in advance if I laugh a little while reading it, though.

Frogging in the dark. Pass under an overhanging wasp-bush. Just enough light for the frickers to see me. I'm getting blasted about the head and neck and have no idea why is going on. I take off running and screaming like a girl possessed. Pretty sure my buddies thought I got taken by a tree-shaker.

Obviously.

I figured the wasps were in my crepe myrtle because of the aphid and black mold issue. That would be fine if they could control the situation, but instead of still have BOTH issues.

Perhaps i need to import more wasps?

ETA - i've been stung one time in my life by a wasp, damn things were in a hollow metal post while i was opening a gate.

Im 90% sure i set the NFL combine 40 time record. But they were faster. it hurt.

Now yellow jackets on the other hand, too many stings to count.

Sorry man. I forgot to post them until you said something. The first one is about a month after planting during an enormous rainstorm one afternoon. I was taking a pic of my flooded back yard but the wax myrtles are there in the corner of the fence lines.

This next one was this morning with frost on the ground:

As you can see, I've thinned them out a bit since the wife wants them to grow into trees instead of hedges. You know what they say - happy wife happy life. She doesn't know it yet but once they're officially taller than the fence line, I'll keep them thin at the bottom but will train them to be hedge-like toward the top.

"I don't know, honey. I did what the internet said to do. Not sure why they turned out that way"
