Weren’t they gettable for LSU?

I seem to remember Mullens being passed on because of a QB we missed on and I know Etienne was slow played over others like Akers that left us at the altar.

Am I remembering right?

They would have been really nice to have this year and next.

That's the main problem, and letting Clemson get too close, too early. Akers was most likely a pipe dream, anyway, and I don't think he was all that better a back than Etienne, but the staff did.

And they got neither. We got CEH who is a hell of a football player and might be a better feature back than I originally thought and Provens (who may end up moving outside or to defense if Emery and Davis come in as advertised), but obviously Clemson and FSU got feature backs in the classic LSU style.

We were hoping to get Mullins and Kristian Fulton On NSD that year, but Mullins committed to Clemson at the last minute.

Thanks for clarifying. I knew his name was discussed but couldn’t remember.

Clemson didn't even talk to Etienne until late. He liked Clemson, but they never contacted him until a couple weeks before NSD and once they did, he was sold.

Edited to add link to article on his recruitment.

There was some chatter that part of the reason he went to Clemson was because he would be one of 4 CBs for LSU (Fulton, Greedy and Savion Smith). It would have been a disgusting CB haul.

We fricked up Etiennes recruitment. He wanted an LSU offer and wanted us to really recruit him and we didn’t.. We slow played for him for Akers and most people around here knew it was a mistake. It was that odd time where most here knew we weren’t getting cam and making a huge mistake with etienne.. Clemson came swooping in late when we offered and showed him love and a program on the rise

We went for Akers and got screwed . Etienne would have walked to LSU but we screwed that up and went on him too late once Akers was showing all the love to Fisher and Florida State. Take the Louisiana kid when thinks are that close in talent.

Mullens was also really close with Kevin Toliver and he was in the doghouse that year at LSU.

Also interesting, Joejuan Williams wanted to go to LSU too.

Goof balls on here thought Etienne was a one trick pony (speed back) and that it didn’t make since to take he and CEH in the same class. Etienne seemed to get 2k on the ground every season in high school, which means that he was an elite talent even in the class his high school played in. I still can’t understand the though process to slow play the kid the way LSU decided to.

It seemed the Miles staff also veiwed it thay way. Early on it was going to be Akers and either one of Etienne/CEH. The Miles staff liked CEH more and thought Akers was a shoe in. All indications early on was that Akers was coming to LSU.

People who are still very close to Etienne tell me that he was a Clemson fan for years and that there really wasn't much LSU could have done to change that.

Clemson didn't get on him early at all. WE offered him a scholarship before they did

I love the guy, and glad he is ours, but I don't know how you can see this. He doesn't seem to have the speed to be a feature back

Mullen was a take. He had LSU at #1 for a long time.

It just happens thet way.

We got Fulton and greedy though, year.

Got some people on my Facebook that has connections to Ettienne and they were discussing it last night.

Les offered him at DB. Ettienne had no interest in that. By the time O came in after LSU had slow played him and offered him at RB, it was too late.
