When I go to Sonic, I usually don’t tip and the carhop seems mad. Is it necessary to tip? If so, how much?

No.

I worked at a Sonic during college. This was pre-credit card machines, so 90% of my transactions as a carhop were in cash.

I didn't expect tips, but I knew from friends that worked there, that tips were given by customers. Most of it was a "keep the change" type deal. But when you are taking out 100-150 tickets on a shift, keeping $1 adds up (plus min wage, $5.15 at the time).

Granted, the Sonic I worked at was ran properly and all carhops were responsible for ensuring all customers had everything they needed BEFORE bringing the order out (straws, mints, ketchups, dipping sauces, napkins, etc..)

We were also constantly outside with a service tray for people who wanted more condiments and offering refills or to throw away people's trash if they were eating in their car.

Fun fact: They pay you extra to wear the roller skates. When I worked there, they paid you an extra dollar an hour. I never felt it was worth it and it was incredibly dangerous to be on them while inside. I never wore them.

This topic should be a bannable offense from it being posted once a week.

Hell, at least post a food topic on the food board.

This board breeds more idiots by the hour.

Here's a Sonic tip: Check a man's knuckles before your mouth writes a check your arse is going to have to cash.

$1 plus the loose change.

ETA: A couple bucks when they used to be on roller skates.

Tipping at Sonic - should I or shouldn't I?

Wonderful first post and a great post for the first day of 2019. I predict an incredible TD-OT career. Several posters have reason to get worried.
