It wouldn't offset the difference, but it would be a start.

And ftr, I agree. Our service members actually accomplish the job they have. Congress does not. It's why I believe shutdowns should halt Congressional pay throughout the duration, with no retro. When shite actually affects their bottom line, deals will happen.

Until that day which will probably never come, be prepared to enjoy more political posturing, grandstanding, virtue signaling and bloviating from Congress.

There's an old saying that rings true:

If "pro" is the opposite of "con", is progress the opposite of Congress?

So why did you want to work in the military?

This is one of Trump’s best promises

This wasn't a promise, it was something he said he had already done.

Which makes it a lie, since it hasn't been done at all.

They should. I agree. But, that’a probably unrealistic.

They ALL should make a living wage, though. What some of these Privates make is horrendous. And, if they’re married with kids, they basically have to be on food stamps.

Our soldiers fighting our wars should be well compensated.

I’m really glad that Trump has addressed this and delivered the news to troops in Iraq on Christmas Day. What a great gift! It’s something that should unite us all.

Yes, you’re right. He said he already did it. It’s not a promise. He announced it as done.

How can it be a lie? He said they were getting a 10% raise. He announced it. Why would he lie about something so easily disprovable?

That makes no sense.

He should shame them into it "I serve this country free of charge. Our Congress should do the same"

He already did it?

Did what? Cut something? Cut what?

And where does it say the budget has the 10% raise?

All I am saying is that the fact we are broke as shite with impending interest about to spike like a volleyball the last thing I want is giving anyone in government a damn raise withput massive cuts elsewhere.

Oh, wait...

No need to wait, the answer is the gravy train for illegals pouring over the border.

You may not have noticed but he's addressing that issue currently.

I understand your sentiment but this is beyond stupid to suggest. And I say this as someone who was in the military for 6 years.

I was in for 10. I'd support paying them $100k or more.

With the perks those fricks get (not to mention the under-the-table stuff), 80k per year is far more than adequate. That right there would save 95k per legislator per year.

lol... you may very well mean that. Now I ask do you think that job in the military is available to you if they are dishing out 6 figure contracts with no experience? and I'm not talking about right now but I'm talking when you first enlisted. Why do college graduates make up a majority of officer grades but a very tiny portion of enlisted? Your position is a short sighted one and I think you know that.

There should be Congressional dorms. Housing is what kills them, which I understand. Having to have two residences with a family back home and one residence in DC is a real problem. I have sympathy on them there, to be honest.

They already do if you count the numbers on the right.

Trump says objectively false shite all the time because he doesn't care what says and he doesn't have the least regard or respect for people who listen to what he says.

1. It's not as tiny as you would think. In fact, it's almost a requirement now to advance beyond the rank of E6.

2. Up until a few years ago, you couldn't get student loans repaid going OCS but you could doing a 6-year enlistment.

3. A lot of college graduates coming in do not want the responsibility of being an officer nor do they want to go through the precommissioning process required.

He is trying to address it, yes.

Don't put the cart before the horse.

Economists are fricking idiots and think debt exists in a vacuum and American prosperity will last forever because of their personal greed in the now.

I'm all about helping military, but im also totally against favoring any sector of populace over another. That isn't what government should EVER be about.

If he wishes to push a military wide pay raise I want to cut some where. Anywhere.

It comes across as great but in reality it is just another step to our demise. More money we don't have that feels good to a certain amount of citizens because of the gesture.

I'm not sure if this is sarcasm.

But the raise is supposedly 2.6%, not 10%. He increased the military budget 10%.

No, it doesn't. Yet he seems to do it almost daily. As long as his base doesn't care, he'll keep doing it.
