quote:

“[People said] we could make it 3 percent. We could make it 2 percent. We could make it 4 percent," he told the troops. “I said, ‘No, make it 10 percent. Make it more than 10 percent.’ Because it’s been a long time. It’s been more than 10 years. That’s a long time.”

This is one of Trump’s best promises, made on Christmas on his first trip to visit troops overseas in an area where they are in harm’s way. So, it’s a big deal.

I think this is one of Trump’s best promises yet. I look forward to this happening.

I’m not sure he has the ability to fulfill this but he’s going to leverage this for all it’s worth to bludgeon the Dems into doing it.

This is great! I went to Afghanistan from 03-04 for OEF as a specialist and made a grand total of around $20,000 in a year. That was tax free and included hazard pay. It’s a shame how poorly our military is paid for the job they do.

Seems like this is what Trump wants. He is looking out for the troops.

This seems to be trumps spiration. Not a promise

Now let’s see if Congress appropriates the money or if Congress continues to do what Congress does

Wow, telling people the ice cream machine is broken at McDonalds pays better than combat.

I really do. I’ve had a lot of friends in the military who don’t get paid nearly enough - especially enlisted. They risk their lives for our country and their pay is horrendous.

Officers make a lot more, but the enlisted need to make way more than they do.

What’s your problem? Why the sarcasm? You don’t think our troops should be better paid?

I agree with Trump 100% on this. I look forward to these troops in a war zone being the beneficiary of his promise. I’m sure their families back home were happy to hear the news.

Sir, thank you for your service! I do agree that 20k a year is horrible for having to be overseas. I ask this because I'm just curious but when you are over seas do you have to pay for anything? Meals, housing and clothing are provided along with 20k?

Thank you for your service. And, you’re totally right. I’ve known military families whose husbands, fathers, wives, mothers were in the Middle East risking their lives for our country and their family back home was living at poverty levels. It’s a real shame.

I’m glad President Trump addressed this.

Cut anything we can. What is more important than this.

He says he already did it though. The raise is coming. So, it’s already in the budget, right?

The deficit is already $850 Billion. Isn’t this included?

Based on what he said it looks like he’s saying the 10% increase is already approved. That it’s coming. Why would it be a proposal? Haven’t budget negotiations already happened?

I’m pretty sure he means these troops are getting a 10% raise for 2019.

Which they totally deserve.

If we aren’t paying for ongoing operations in Syria and Afghanistan, I think we can afford to bump up soldiers’ pay a bit.

Why didn't he do it when his party had full control of Congress?

He also said they hadn’t gotten a pay raise in over 10 years...which is also a lie.

10%

We need to do it because it’s right and they deserve it. This is one Trump promise I’m really glad about. Every American should support this.
