The other threads was devolving into DJT and tax cuts. But we really need to focus on what the Fed just did: They are raising interest rates when economic activity is clearly softening. In business school, the professor explained that the central bank raising rates during an obvious recession was a major reason why the Great Depression was as bad as it was. He also said our great economists learned that it was an extremely stupid move and our government would never to do it again.

The Fed's main purpose of controlling the bank lending rate is to curb inflation, but with energy prices dropping and the market taking big lumps, does anyone really believe our economy is overheating?

This is akin to driving using your rear view mirror. What are these clowns thinking??? And why are they controlling our economy? They aren't even elected.

Too much hot money creates inflation and bubbles. The real mistake was zero percent interest for as long as they did it. When this happens wages rarely keep up and the resulting crash screws a bunch of people.

Inflation helps the banks get their loans paid off and allows Wall Street to make more on their capital since they’re at the head of the line. It creates a juiced economy that is great...until it’s not.

When the average house is over $200k and an F150 costs $40k...something isn’t right.

The reason the are raising rates is because for the whole Obama administration they kept rates artificially low. Since the rates were already low during the economy bounce back they had to start raising rates to stop inflation but the problem is they kept them so low for so long there is no room to stop raising them now because they aren't high enough yet. The Fed's lack of action for Obama's 8 years has put us into this mess.

The Fed has taken food and energy out of the inflation equation. They focus on durable goods which has slightly increased in price. By raising rates it strengthens the dollar (makes it easier for U.S. consumers to purchase durable goods) and helps out the multinationals and associated banks because multinational mostly manufacture durable goods.

Ostensibly the U.S.. Realistically it's a consortium of bankers around the world who controls the money of the U.S. The ones who own it have no business playing with our fricking money.

I believe that same group of people want to cause a recession so Trump will be blamed.

The privately owned member banks who own the regional federal reserve banks, who make a guaranteed 6%. Next question, who owns the member banks?

Fed raises rates- market drops because it doesn’t like raising rates during a potential slow down
Fed don’t raise rates- market drops because by not doing so, fed indicates market is slowing down

Damned if you do. Damned if you don’t.
