COLUMBUS — Ohio State is the front-runner to land the services of former five-star quarterback Justin Fields, multiple sources have indicated to The Blade.

The true freshman backup at Georgia has alerted coach Kirby Smart of his intent to transfer. Ohio State coach Ryan Day is a primary reason for Fields’ interest in the Buckeyes.

Fields, who will be the most coveted free agent in college football, is also considering Florida State and Oklahoma.

He intends to petition the NCAA for immediate eligibility. UGASports.com reported that Fields is expected to retain Tom Mars, the attorney who helped Michigan quarterback Shea Patterson gain immediate eligibility. Mars has become a transfer whisperer, winning several waiver cases in 2018.

oh college football. hopefully we can drag in several bureaucrats and some kind of special committee to rule on his eligibility to complete the process.

What is Fields argument for immediate eligibility? “Ummm I didn’t know how to properly read a depth chart when I signed with UGA, despite everyone constantly questioning my decision.”

They will claim racism. The snowflakes at the NCAA won't want to fight that.

Boy took the money (from GA) and ran.

Why else would he sign with GA.........when GA already had a very young very good QB that just took them to OT in the NC game??

But GA cant say a word.

What possible waiver could Fields obtain? He can't play the hardship/transfer close to home card bc he's from Georgia and he can't play the sanctions card so idk what way he could possibly get immediate eligibility?

This.

The optics of saying "Racism isn't a good excuse to transfer" would just be too bad.

He helped Van Jefferson (another Ole Miss guy) play immediately at Florida too.

As stated in this thread, a UGA baseball player was actually kicked out of school for yelling racial slurs at Justin Fields.

It is documented.

And he can say he now feels uncomfortable in that racist environment and the NCAA will not fight that. No way.
