i will say that it would set an interesting precedent, if not already there.

all one has to do is take a gander at team message boards and find something with racist/racial under/over tones.

They will claim racism. The snowflakes at the NCAA won't want to fight that.

I guess I missed this story...what happened here?

As stated in this thread, a UGA baseball player was actually kicked out of school for yelling racial slurs at Justin Fields.

It is documented.

And he can say he now feels uncomfortable in that racist environment and the NCAA will not fight that. No way.

Like you said though, the ONE person who did it got axed. Even the NCAA shouldn't be stupid enough to fall for that.

The optics of saying "Racism isn't a good excuse to transfer" would just be too bad.

I mean in reality, in a case where it can be proven, racism actually is a fair reason to transfer

I haven't gotten to watch him play much (since he didn't play much at UGA this year) but I kind of wonder why OSU would be going full on after him. He is a DT guy, who was a Meyer type through and through. Day may want to go a bit more traditional

However, I do know that the QB coach Fields went to in the offseason is the same one Haskins goes to, and he said if he had a son he would want Day to be his coach. Probably playing big into this

I don't care if it was completely made up.

If a black person claims they were the victim of racism and feel uncomfortable, people have to pretend to believe them or they will be publicly shamed. I can see the headlines and talk show topics now.

"UGA QB victim of racism, denied chance to transfer"

Doesn't matter if its true or not.

What? Are you saying it doesnt matter to the media, or it doesnt even matter to level headed people?

Santino Marchiol’s transfer from Texas A&M could provide a roadmap for players who are interested in transferring schools and playing immediately.

SI Article

NCAA guidelines allow qualified student-athletes to play immediately upon transferring to a new college.

1. The transfer is due to documented mitigating circumstances that are outside the student-athlete’s control and directly impact the health, safety and well-being of the student-athlete;

2. At the time of transfer to the certifying institution, the student-athlete would have been athletically and academically eligible and in good standing on the team had he or she remained at the previous institution;

3. The certifying institution must certify that the student-athlete meets percentage-of-degree requirements; and

4. The previous institution's athletics administration does not oppose the transfer.

That's an awfully shitty precedent to set. "I'm not getting enough playing time so I'll just claim someone called me the N word without proof and play immediately at another major program."

He needs to play the Josh Belk card...

Have his mom move to Ohio and then she comes down with a "health condition". He has the lawyer, so he is well on his way to getting there.

To the media obviously.

I agree.

However, there actually is proof in this case.

And he (as in, one person) was hammered by the school no more than a few days after the incident. Dude was a pretty good contributor on their baseball team and they showed no mercy.

Except, the Fields family is sending the younger daughter to play Softball at UGA now. Doesn't seem like they're too worried about a racist environment in regards to her.

Well, that's great. The family and the daughter can say they feel fine in Athens.

Justin can say, since the slur was directed at him, that he as an individual doesn't.

Look, I think it's horseshite as well, but its just one of those taboo things that a public entity can't fight unless they want a serious backlash in the media.

I just really hope he(Fields) doesn't take it there. Just leave and try to not burn every bridge you can find.
